Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Personal Injury- I recently represented a gentleman who was struck by a vehicle while he was out for his morning run. My client ended up with a broken ankle and a lot of medical expenses. He was a graduate student in the middle of his semester and this injury caused him a great deal of inconvenience personally and at school. After becoming involved, I completely took over every aspect of the case so that he could focus on his school work and his recovery. I was able to help get him through this difficult time so he could maintain his sanity. The end result was a great settlement that took care of all of his outstanding medical bills and health insurance liens. He was also fairly compensated for his injuries and his pain and suffering. It was an honor to help this client when he needed help the most. Criminal/Traffic- I represented a young lady who was charged with driving drunk very late at night She was an out-of-state college graduate and was actually the designated driver for the evening. Her passenger was highly intoxicated and because of that the vehicle had an overwhelming aroma of alcohol. While stopped at a red light, the passenger needed to vomit, and opened the door to do so. The light turned green, but the passenger had not yet finished vomiting. A police officer in the area saw the stopped vehicle and investigated because it was sitting still with a green light. The young lady despite fully explaining the situation was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving while impaired. She was adamant that she was not in any way intoxicated or impaired and that because she was the designated driver, her last drink was 5 hours prior to leaving the party. She faced the loss of her license, the loss of her new job, and the loss of her liberty. This was a great source of stress. I vigorously investigated the allegations and prepared for trial. I was able to get her charges, all of them, dismissed after a hearing.

How did you build a successful practice?

I am fortunate to have my father as a law partner. He has been in practice for over 50 years and handles a wide variety of cases. I had my first trial a week after I became a lawyer. I have followed his template for success: return every call as soon as possible; handle every case like it was for a family member; do not take advantage of people, ever; be fair; be honest; when you go to sleep at night be able to say you did everything your could for the client; remember that it is an honor to be trusted by a client with their case whether it be civil, criminal, traffic, divorce, workers compensation, etc. By following this template I have earned an excellent reputation in the legal community.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients need to find an attorney that they feel comfortable with. Since many cases deal with life, liberty and money, it is essential that the client has faith that the lawyer is giving their case their full time and attention. Lawyers must be honest, hard working, and fair.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It some circumstances, it is not what you know, but who you know. For example, as the past President of the Bar Association of Baltimore City, I have a good working knowledge and relationship with many of the Judges, Prosecutors, and civil plaintiff/defense attorneys.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Every case is different. There is not consultation fee for criminal cases, or for personal injury cases (car accidents, workers compensation, etc.) Due to the complexity of family law cases (divorce, custody, child support) a consultation fee is required. Once I am able to understand the circumstances of each case where there is no consultation fee, I can decide if it is something that will require hiring an attorney. If it is not a case that I feel requires an attorney, sometimes, it is just a matter of pointing someone in the right direction.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

As much information as possible to help me quickly get an understanding of the issues.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Becoming one of the youngest President's of the Bar Association of Baltimore City demonstrates fully and completely how I am perceived by my profession. I have also received many awards that also demonstrate my accomplishments and recognition by my profession. I am routinely asked to speak at schools, colleges, etc. which I love doing.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Going on the journey with clients from start to finish and helping them to achieve their goals is beyond compare. At the beginning of almost every case, to the client, the outlook can be uncertain, dire, or frightening. It is nice to be able to help them navigate these waters safely.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I enjoy playing and coaching soccer. I enjoy playing competitive softball. I enjoy running. I enjoy being with my family.

Are you involved in your community?

I am very involved in my community. I coach youth soccer. I speak to various audiences about legal matters, including elementary, middle, and high school students.

  • Maryland Traffic Citations - How a molehill becomes a mountain !!!!!!!

We routinely represent people when they are charged with driving on a suspended license.  This offense is a JAILABLE offense.  Many times the suspension occurred because the driver received a citation many months (even years) ago, for a minor offense, and DID NOTHING AT ALL.

Most people think that if they get a minor ticket that they wish to fight, or seek leniency on, they will get a letter in the mail telling them when to come to Court to do so. That has not been the case in Maryland for some time now.

Unfortunately, many good folks fall victim to this administrative process which, if not followed, will cause a license suspension.  That suspension sits like a ticking time bomb and doesn't explode if/when/until you are pulled over by the police and your licensing information is checked by the officer.

These "ticking time bomb" suspensions are completely avoidable if you take the following advice:   If you have received ONLY payable traffic citations (tickets where jail time is not a possibility), you MUST take one of the following three (3) actions within thirty (30) days:

Option A: Pay the  full fine and plead "guilty" - BE MINDFUL THAT, DEPENDING ON THE OFFENSE, THIS OPTION CAN CAUSE POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE

Option B: Ask for a waiver hearing to plead "guilty with an explanation"

Option C: Ask for a trial to plead "not guilty"

If you need help with your minor, seemingly minor, or serious traffic citation(s) - please do not hesitate to call for a FREE consultation.

Adverse possession is the legal concept that if the owner of the land isn’t using it, and someone else is giving the land a useful purpose for long enough, the law favors the useful purpose over the land being left unused.
