My client was charged with rape, sodomy, delivery of a controlled drug, and several other charges. The alleged victims were his daughter and her friend (both 14-16 years at the time of the allegations). My client also had 2 prior felony convictions for Rape. At a jury trial, both girls testified to the charged allegations, the State also produced DNA evidence and presented it against my client. The jury found my client NOT GUILTY on all counts. However, it was very difficult to overcome the prejudice of my client's 2 prior rape convictions, where each of those 2 victims testified to a prior separate rape. I overcame the DNA evidence by, prior to trial, consulting with a former police DNA technician. I utilized what I learned to form a destructive cross-examination of the State's chemist. Thankfully, justice was served and my client was set free rather than serving a probable life sentence for crimes that he did not commit.

As a former state and federal prosecutor, I always tried to be fair in seeking justice. During my tenure with the state and federal government, I forged connections with judges, court staff, prosecutors and defense attorneys. I developed a reputation for being tough and also fair. I was termed, "The velvet hammer". When I did go to trial, I secured lengthy verdicts. I obtained, at that time, the lengthiest verdict in the history of Tulsa County (10 life sentences running consecutively for a rapist). I have also been tenacious and persistent in my defense practice, always trying to think outside the box. I was able to persuade the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma to dismiss a case against my client because of evidence that I discovered through persistence in the case at hand. I also have represented Law Enforcement Officers in federal court, who were charged with corruption, robbery and delivery of controlled drugs. I have developed an ability, begun as a state and federal prosecutor, to sense what cases need to be worked out and which cases need to go to a trial.
