Cheryl David is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, the University of Baltimore School of Law, and the prestigious Trial Lawyer’s College presided over by Gerry Spence. A former administrative judge, Cheryl is certified as an Estate Planning Law Specialist by the ABA accredited Estate Law Specialists Board, Inc. She is also a member of the Gate City Rotary, Greensboro Estate Planning Council, American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, Medicaid Practice Systems, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. In 2008, Cheryl received the honor of becoming a Fellow with the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. In order to maintain this advanced expertise, Cheryl takes over 36 hours of continuing education in Estate Planning, Elder Law, and Taxation each year. Her professional capabilities, together with over 25 years in practice, have combined to bring positive change to the lives of over 4,500 clients and their families.
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

We make the biggest difference for families through our Estate and Elder Law Planning. When we keep a family from going through Court for end of life care, qualify them for benefits so they don't lose everything, keep them out of the Probate process through Revocable Trust Planning or efficiently take them through the Court process we're changing lives.

How did you build a successful practice?

We built a successful practice over the last thirty years by listening to our clients and determining each day how to make the practice work a little better for our clients. The most important attribute however is our staff. Our staff members are friendly, highly skilled and customer oriented.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

When I choose a lawyer for my family I look for someone who is passionate about what they do, who legally specializes in their specific area of law and most importantly, a lawyer who has been referred to me either by someone I trust or has excellent reviews from past clients and other professionals who have knowledge of their skills.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Every state has different laws and every county has specific nuances which must be addressed, so in my opinion local knowledge is the key to a successful expedited result. Knowing the right way to do things and the right people to see to get them done is everything. In the last 30 years this is how our firm has operated and best served our clients. What information can you provide for free? We have free monthly education seminars to address the overall area of Estate Planning and Elder Law. Attendance at these events is a great way to educate yourself about this vast area of law and get some of your specific questions addressed. What will happen when I call the office to make an appointment? Our staff members will ask you about your situation, see if we are able to assist you and if so, set you up with the best attorney to address your needs.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

For the last thirty years we've practiced in only one area of the law - Estate Planning and Elder Law. Our office does comprehensive planning. We handle as much of the leg work as is humanly possible for our clients. For instance, most firms don't transfer assets or change beneficiaries for their clients, but instead give them instructions on how to do these things when they leave. A key part of our job and the difference at Law Offices of Cheryl David is that we do these things for our clients. We believe it's our job to make your life easier and help you though the process. Whether it's protecting an estate from the devastating costs of illness or the expense of Probate when a loved one dies, we're here to help.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I love when spouses and children come in and thank us and tell us that our staff made a difficult time easier. They recount how friends and other family members referred them to our office and how satisfied they are with our work and how they will refer others to us when they see someone who needs our services.

  • My favorite cases are planning estates which avoid probate and the court system when death occurs. A few weeks ago a longstanding client passed, 5 years after her husband died. Upon her death we were able to finalize her estate without any court involvement in one week. When probate is necessary, helping the families through the court system in and expedited manner is very rewarding. Also, for our clients who get ill and need skilled care, nothing is better than getting them qualified for Medicaid, preserving their assets and helping their families find the right care and assistance during their illness.

Las Vegas' Adverse Possession Law
Adverse possession is the legal concept that if the owner of the land isn’t using it, and someone else is giving the land a useful purpose for long enough, the law favors the useful purpose over the land being left unused.

Due to the high traffic, noise, lowering property value, and other issues arising from the temporary nature of timeshares, cities often enact ordinances regulating the development and use of Timeshares within city limits.
