In the State of North Carolina, if a father has a child outside of marriage and does not take full legal measures to legitimate this child, upon his death, the child does not have a right to inherit from him after probate. However, after a lengthy court battle, my firm was able to secure the right to inherit for our client, a child born out of wedlock, from the probate estate and wrongful death proceeds of her father.
