David Magilligan, Attorney

I began my criminal law career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County.  While there, I had the opportunity to spend countless hours in the courtroom learning criminal law and practicing criminal procedure.  I tried numerous cases, both felony and misdemeanor, in front of juries and judges.  In being part of the daily courtroom experience, I saw the value that a committed criminal defense attorney could bring to his or her client. At that point, I knew that representing the accused was my calling

Prior to practicing law, I spent over 10 years in business. Therefore, unlike many attorneys who have never worked extensively outside the legal system, I have real world knowledge of professionals and working people that gives me additional insight into how being accused of a crime by the Government can impact people’s lives.

In addition, I am extremely involved with the legal community. I have been Chairperson of the University of Miami Law Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Committee for 2011-2012 (also my alma mater). This role also included being a member of the University of Miami School of Law’s board for that same year. I am also a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Dade County Bar Association, and the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce.

I am a graduate of the University of Miami School of Law. While there, I was very involved with the university and the university community. Specifically, I was elected Student Bar Association President for two terms.  Prior to attending law school, I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University Maryland.
