My Personal Motto Is - Serving Future Americans to Help Build America. Immigration is a complex legal field and I have practice it exclusively for 25 years in order to provide a higher quality of service to my clients. I help families file non-immigrant and immigrant visas and to reunite with family members left behind or newly acquired. I also file asylum applications for refugees fleeing persecution. Previously I directed a Faith-Based Asylum Program focusing on conflict zones in Africa and in particular Ethiopia. I continue to work with Church groups and other community organizations. I also provide defense representation in detention matters and deportation hearings. Due to my criminal law background I tend to work closely with the Criminal Defense Bar on the immigration consequences of criminal conduct and convictions. I regularly attend continuing legal education programs as a lecturer and participant.

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I had a client who was a green card holder for over 20 years and had committed a minor traffic offense. Due to a clerical error in the State Court records CIS placed him in deportation proceedings to revoke his green card claiming that he had a drug possession conviction. I successfully challenged the government and they failed to produce reliable evidence to meet their contention. The proceeding was terminated and a few months later the client filed for naturalization and is now a U.S. Citizen with no fear of being deported.

How did you build a successful practice?

I have built a successful practice by first engaging clients in open and honest communications. Secondly, I make it a practice to respond to clients' calls personally and within a day or two at most. My track record and successes have routinely created a constant stream of referrals to other family members, friends, and co-workers.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients deserve respect from lawyers and to be kept abreast of progress or roadblocks in their cases.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

They should also expect their lawyer to be knowledgeable and up-to-date in their core fields.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

In a free telephone consultation I can provide a basic review of a PC circumstances and clarify the nature of the legal problem and identify in broad terms the presence of solutions.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Their country of origin. The last date of entry into the U.S. and the manner of entry, i.e. with or without a visa. Also an explanation, if applicable, of the relationship between the caller and the person on whose behalf they might be calling.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

My 36 years in the legal profession earns me respect among my colleagues. My regular attendance at continuing legal education courses and other professional forums demonstrates my desire to continue to hone my skills and establishes my dedication. My success stories are generally and openly discussed within elements of the immigrant community. In particular, I am distinguished from other attorneys in the quality and thoroughness of my evidence packages or case preparation and Immigration Judges have on occasion mentioned the good quality of my work while addressing my clients directly and wishing them well.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is when I can reunite children or spouses who have endured long separations from their loved ones. I also find it rewarding to share in the joy my clients' experience upon learning that they are now legal members of our society. Often, I will join them at a celebratory lunch or dinner.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am an avid photographer of nature and enjoy photo excursions. I love learning about history and the countries where my client's hail from. I am also a lifetime philatelist and enjoy stamps from different countries for their display of artistic qualities or depictions of historic events or personalities.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes, I am involved in my community at various points throughout the year. In particular I like providing overview of immigration matters at Church sponsored events and volunteering with community agencies when they sponsor free legal clinics.
