Scott Gilman graduated from Touro Law School in 1988. While at Touro, Scott Gilman was a founding student member of Touro’s Social Security Disability Clinic. This is where Mr. Gilman obtained his first taste of success in representing seriously injured claimants against a huge adversary (our federal government). Soon after graduating from law school, Mr. Gilman took a position with one of New York City’s premiere insurance defense firms. There, Mr. Gilman learned first hand the tactics and strategies employed by insurance companies to maximize their profits on the backs of injured claimants. After approximately one year, Mr. Gilman left this lucrative but unpleasant work for a position with New York City’s largest labor union, AFSCME’s District Council 37. There, Mr. Gilman devoted himself to helping New York City’s woefully underpaid municipal employees with legal problems, often caused by careless acts of others and the intentional abuses of insurance companies, hospitals, and big landlords. Mr. Gilman soon found that he enjoyed the challenge of helping the underdog fight the good fight, against all odds. Mr Gilman’s commitment to excellence, preparation and trial skills quickly became noticed, especially by his peers. This culminated in his election by the two hundred or so lawyers, paralegals and social workers he worked with, to head up their own staff union. Eventually, Mr. Gilman learned that his skills were best utilized by assisting seriously injured workers and other individuals in their fight for fair compensation, frequently, obtaining lifetime benefits for those permanently disabled and unable to work for the rest of their lives.
