PERSONAL INJURY CASES: I have represented clients on personal injury compensation claims arising out of auto accidents, bicycle accidents, construction accidents, defective products, sexual assault, medical negligence, and falls. I also successfully pursued a Wrongful Death case arising out of the suffocation of a baby in a "co-sleeping" situation. In ten of the personal injury matters in which I have represented clients, the settlements obtained were in the range of $100,000-$300,000. In an auto accident case commenced by another attorney on behalf of a driver-mother and her minor passenger-son, I served as temporary substitute counsel and Guardian ad Litem for the minor during unsuccessful mediation and pre-trial settlement negotiations. In affirming the trial court’s denial of statutory costs to the defendant insurance company following a trial in which the jury’s damage award to the minor was less than the statutory pre-trial settlement offer, the Court of Appeals vindicated my rejection of the statutory offer because it would have required the minor to personally satisfy medical expense liens despite existing caselaw which provided that causes of action for recovery of an injured minor’s medical expenses belong to the minor’s parents rather than the minor. See Bockin, et. al., v. Farmers Insurance Exchange, et. al., 2006 WI App 220, 296 Wis.2d 694, 723 N.W.2d 741. OTHER CIVIL LITIGATION CASES: As defense counsel in civil cases, I have defended clients against traffic accident related personal injury claims, asbestos exposure related injury/death claims, breach of contract claims, Federal Employers Liability Act claims, fire loss claims, premises liability claims, a multi-million dollar remodeling related homeowner property damage claim, and a products liability crash-worthiness claim involving a ruptured snowmobile fuel tank and catastrophic burn injuries. [In a Federal Employer's Liability Act case in which there was a re-trial on damages, I was trial counsel for the defendant employer in the original trial whose result was, ultimately, reinstated on the cross appeal handled by a successor attorney. See Weber v. Chicago & Northwestern Transp., 191 Wis.2d 626, 530 N.W.2d 25 (Ct. App. 1995).] PROBATE MATTERS: I have served as Personal Representative in several Estates. Also, while representing a Will beneficiary in probate proceedings, I successfully defended against a Will challenge brought by the decedent’s brother and a competing petition for appointment as Estate Personal Representative brought by their niece. CRIMINAL CASES: I have defended individuals against criminal charges in Wisconsin courts, including Aggravated Battery, Battery, Burglary, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Criminal Damage to Property, Disorderly Conduct, Endangering Safety by Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Fleeing Officer, Forgery/ Uttering Forged Check, Keeping a Drug House, Operating After Revocation, Operating While Intoxicated, Physical Abuse of a Child, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Endangerment While Armed, Reckless Injury, Resisting/ Obstructing Officer, Robbery With Use of Force, Sexual Assault, Substantial Battery, and Theft. TRIALS: Over the course of my career, including both civil and criminal cases, I have represented clients as lead counsel in approximately 40 jury trials.
