Introduction: | Mr. Karl Chen is the founding partner of CHEN Law. With over fifteen years of legal experience addressing transactional, compliance and regulatory matters for publicly traded companies, Karl's significant experience in the area of corporate compliance, governance and securities are parlayed into delivering legal services with the insight of a big firm lawyer without the significant cost.
Karl has negotiated and interfaced with government officials regarding inquires and investigations related to regulated activities. Karl has advised senior level management and board members on critical legal issues. As a former attorney-adviser with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, Division of Corporation Finance, Karl has gained significant insight and judgment in recognizing the disclosure issues that are significant in maintaining a company's compliance with various regulatory laws. This insight is quite valuable. Karl further parlayed his SEC experience, serving as senior-level counsel over the past decade, with three of the metro areas Fortune companies: Nextel Communications, Inc., Fannie Mae and Towers Watson & Co. Karl has spoken nationally on the topic of corporate and securities compliance through the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA), and regionally through the Maryland State Bar Association. Karl also represents individuals on other matters noted in the practice areas section. In light of his busy schedule, Karl also has found time and continues to spend time giving back professionally through his past involvement with a local cub scout pack of the Boy Scouts of America; Parent liaison with the Local School Restructuring Team (LSRT) at Lafayette Elementary School in Washington, D.C.; Board member of Washington Latin Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.; Member of the Legal Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden; Prior co-chair of the corporate and securities forum for the WMACCA chapter of the ACC; Member of the National Bar Association and American Bar Association; and through pro bono activities representing low-income clients on various matters. Karl holds a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he also formerly served as Editor-in-Chief of The Law Forum. Karl holds a B.B.A. in Finance from Ohio University and is a member of the bars of Maryland, U.S. District Court for Maryland, District of Columbia, and U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. | ||||||||||
