Ken Harris received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985 (BA – Political Science). Mr. Harris obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. Following his graduation from law school, Mr. Harris joined the law firm of Wishart, Norris, Henninger & Pittman in Charlotte, North Carolina. While there, his practice focused on Immigration Law and Plaintiff’s Litigation in Tort and Worker’s Compensation matters. In 1990, Mr. Harris joined the law firm of Hoover & Williams, P.A. where he continued to focus on plaintiff’s litigation in Tort and Worker’s Compensation matters. Mr. Harris co-founded the law firm of Harris & Drummond in 1992 where he continued to participate in plaintiff’s litigation. Mr. Harris co-founded the former Todd, Parham, Harris & Dixon, PLLC in 1995. In 1998, Mr. Harris established his firm as a sole practitioner practicing as KEN HARRIS & ASSOCIATES.

In 1992, Harris was named one of the 50 Leaders of Tomorrow in Ebony magazine’s 50th anniversary issue. Harris and his cases have been featured or emphasized in many publications, including, but not limited to, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, The Charlotte Observer, The Fayetteville Observer, Celebrity Power Magazine, Ebony magazine, Charlotte magazine, The Charlotte Post, Sister Sister magazine, Sports Illustrated, and The Wall Street Journal.

Harris continues to strive for excellence relative to his practice. Harris has litigated cases in the North Carolina Superior and District Courts as well as in the Federal court system, Harris has also litigated numerous cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals including Bennish v. N. C. Dance Theater, Sanhueza v. Liberty Steel Erectors, and Martin v. Cummins South, Inc. Harris has litigated before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (Akron, Ohio), the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal District Courts in North Carolina (Eastern and Western Districts), Federal District Court in Virginia, the North Carolina Industrial Commission and the Social Security Administration. In 2004, Harris and co-counsel, obtained one of the largest medical malpractice settlements in the state of N.C. In 2009, Harris resolved what is considered to be the largest voluntary police liability settlement in Mecklenburg County history.

  • CRUZ V. DMSI STAFFING, LLC
    Plaintiff: Attorney for the plaintiff, Corey Cruz. Corey was employed by the defendant, DMSO Staffing, LLC. The plaintiff was injured while working for the defendant. He sought medical treatment and had two surgeries following the diagnosis of a herniated disc. He filed a worker's compensation claim which was denied. Cruz filed suit against his employer and their insurance agency. The court found in favor of the plaintiff and he was awarded a settlement. The defendants appealed this decision. Upon review the case the appeals court overruled the defendants argument in favor of the plaintiff. The judgment and award was affirmed.

  • MILLER v STANLEY COUNTY SCHOOLS
    Attorney for the Plaintiff in a school shooting case in which a teenage student was shot twice while at school that resulted in serious, life-changing injuries. Counsel for the Plaintiff argued that the school district should have taken the shooter's violent past and not placed him with the general population. The shooter previously stabbed another student while attending high school in a different district. Although the school district never admitted wrong, they settled out of court.
