On October 7, 2009, Belmont University announced its intention to open a College of Law, the first new law school in Middle Tennessee in nearly 100 years. Belmont's College of Law represents the university's seventh college and fourth doctoral program. The College of Law's inaugural class began course work in the fall of 2011 and graduate on May 10, 2014.
