Michele Lewane has a passion for defending the rights of the injured worker as evidenced by her 21 years of experience as a trial lawyer on Workers’ Compensation. A native of Richmond, Michele graduated at the top of her class at the University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law. As part of her mission to stand up for the injured worker, Michele frequently speaks on Workers’ Compensation and domestic relations issues throughout the community. Because she knows how valuable it is to her clients that she is up on the latest in Virginia workers comp law, she participates in Continuing Legal Education courses. In addition to acting as a legal counsel, Michele is available to talk to your employees, association, civic or church group on Informing Employees of Their Workers Comp Rights.

• Death benefits for widow Practice Area: Workers Compensation Date: Nov 16, 2011 Outcome: Death benefits awarded and payment of medical bills Description: Claimant had a back injury which was contested. 6 months later he had back surgery and dies 3 days later while he was still in the hospital of a heart attack.This was a difficult case because the injured worker was dead and I still had to prove how the accident occurred. Second, I had to prove that his death was related to his work accident. His wife testified and his doctor wrote a good medical causation report.
