I've found that my favorite kinds of cases are those where people are in the most need of help because they are at a difficult time in their life. Maybe they are being accused of a crime and have the prosecutorial power of the entire state of Texas or the federal government leveled against them, or maybe they have had Child Protective Services remove their child and are at risk of permanently losing their parental rights, or maybe they are watching their world fall apart because of divorce or a custody dispute. It is at those times, when a client is feeling most vulnerable and alone, that I want to stand beside them and help in any way that I can.

While my primary areas of concentration are criminal defense and family law, I have handled many different kinds of cases including estate planning, personal injury, licensing, wills, probate, and business law. Most of my trial experience has been in state and federal criminal defense, CPS, and family law (divorce, custody, visitation, etc.). When dealing with clients, I like to try and work with them so that we can come up with a plan to address their problems. I try to accommodate clients and am willing to meet with them after-hours or on the weekend. While I prefer to meet in my office, I can and have met clients all over the place when an office visit wasn't convenient. I take my clients' cases very seriously and have a deep desire to help them achieve their legal goals and protect their rights, property and interests. When my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed or experiencing a sense of fear or uncertainty, I try to help them so that they leave with a sense of hope, calm, acceptance, and understanding. For me, the outcome of their case is emotionally import to me, regardless of the financial terms associated with my defense of the case.

• In 2008 I joined the American Bar Association and in 2009 I became a CJA Panel Attorney in the Western District of Texas. Also, in 2009 I joined the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. In 2010 I became a member of the National Association of Counsel for Children. I am also a member of the McLennan County Bar Association, the McLennan County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, the Association of Federal Defense Attorneys, the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, and the College of the State Bar of Texas. In 2011, I was elected to serve as a Director of the Waco-McLennan County Young Lawyers Association and I became Vice-President in 2012.

• PLEA 10 YEARS (15 YEARS LESS THAN THE MINIMUM) Client, with multiple prior felonies in state and federal court, arrested for cocaine found in search of vehicle. Range of punishment if case had proceeded to trial was 25 years to life. CPS MOTHER HAS 1 CHILD REMOVED - GETS 4 BACK A recovering meth and alcohol abuser had CPS remove her son, then she got pregnant by her new boyfriend during the CPS case - twice (once with twins). At the end of the case all four boys are living at home with their mother and CPS is out of her life.
