Attorney Tedia Gamino is an aggressive Milwaukee, WI Criminal Defense Lawyer who has been dedicated to protecting the rights of her clients for over a decade. Attorney Gamino is the managing attorney at Gamino Law Offices, LLC; a firm that focuses on Criminal Defense Law, Family Law, Immigration Law, DUI Law, Drunk Driving Defense Law, OWI/DUI/DWI Law, Sexual Assault Charges, Felony Charges, Traffic Law, Misdemeanor Charges, and Drug Crimes.

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I represented a client in an appellate case where he had been convicted of sexual assault of a minor. I investigated the facts relied upon at the original trial and uncovered major flaws in the evidence that had not been presented at the trial. I convinced the prosecutor that the reported crime scene contained contrary verifiable evidence that undermined the credibility of the alleged victim. I was also able to demonstrate that the original attorney had not conducted sufficient investigation to uncover other exculpatory evidence. The prosecutor lost confidence in the validity of the guilty finding from the trial and agreed to significantly reduce the charge to a minor offense where the client was able to return home to his family and avoid sex offender registration. I also represented a client charged with a felony battery offense who was on interstate felony parole and faced returning to prison for almost the remainder of his life if he was convicted. I uncovered evidence of the alleged victim's troubled past that cast doubt on her credibility and cross examined her extensively at the preliminary hearing to find inconsistencies in her report to the police. Based on her testimony of the battery, I found experts who agreed that the victim's own account of the incident described self-defense. My client decided to accept an offered plea agreement to a minor offense with time served. I was successfully convinced my client's probation officer not to revoke his parole and my client is a free man today.

How did you build a successful practice?

I have modeled the law firm on 4 driving principles: - listen to my clients - respond to all phone calls, questions, requests or correspondence on the same day it is received - repeatedly advocate to reduce bail and get my clients out of custody, but if a client is in custody I diligently visit with them and bring them information about there case as I receive it. I promise every client who remains in custody that I will always visit them before the day of their court hearing. No client should ever have to worry that they are being taken to court and do not have up to date information about that to expect or that they have not been able to communicate their questions, goals or needs to their attorney. - Actively litigate or negotiate every case. I hold the prosecution to its burdens at all points and never waive or forfeit a right on my client's behalf without the client's express direction to do so. It is my policy to litigate every possible issue present in a client's case to preserve their rights and gain advantage over the other party if they are not prepared to meet their burden at every point in the case. My clients can decide to waive their rights by forgoing possible motions or trial if they are given a sufficient incentive to do so by the opposing party; or if the client has personal or strategic reasons to waive those rights. However, I point out every opportunity to litigate and hold the other party to their burden of evidence in a case and counsel my clients on what is in their best interest.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for a lawyer who: - listens to them and respects what they know about their case - critically reviews evidence and investigates all facts and possible theories - communicates clearly and frequently - stays current on new developments in the law - knows the local procedures, rules, judges and other key players in the system - is an experienced litigator and successful negotiator - focuses their practice in the area the client needs, and doesn't try to be a jack of all trades. - works with respected experts

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

We do not do phone consultations. We always want to know who we are taking to and make sure they have a feel for us and that we have a feel for them. We believe decisions about who should represent you in serious matters such as our firm handles should be done in person.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am different from other lawyers because I communicate more frequently with my clients; work ahead of deadlines, am extremely responsive; charge below market rate for top quality services - I understand that clients who are seeking services of a criminal defense lawyer are at a low point in their lives and seek to provide them with the best defense at a very reasonable cost. I cannot capitalize on someone else's misfortune. You can have a lawyer who is reasonably priced and provides exceptional knowledge and service! Also, I speak Spanish.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is the unique aspect of each case in criminal law - from the facts of the case, motivations of the witnesses, searching for nuances in the law, the diverse personalities and backgrounds of my clients; finding motions to file, coming up with unique and creative arguments for people, brainstorming how to strategize a negotiation, and certainly making a difference in people's lives when they have a lot at stake and they are most vulnerable. I want to be able to provide hope, knowledge and change for people. I ensure that people don't get pushed around; that they have a voice in their case. I feel good about the services I provide because I know that I am not making people sacrifice their ability to maintain their lifestyle and other obligations just to keep their freedom. They should be able to have both - quality representation at a very reasonable cost!

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My interests are children, helping in organizations that provide positive experiences for children who will hopefully grow up with a solid foundation for a productive life! I volunteer at several organizations where I run a group for children, am the treasurer of a local organization that has children's activities, fundraise for an organization that donates money directly to schools and to programs to offer in the schools. I alslo volunteer the Next Door Foundation cleaning books to be donated to children throughout Milwaukee.
