I recently helped a family who was dealing with the tragic loss of a loved one (this is all too often the case when you handle personal injury work). However, I was able to help this family not only with a difficult legal case but I was also a small part of their support system as they grieved this terrible loss. I still receive text messages and emails from time to time from the family even though their case has been resolved for almost two years. We developed a meaningful relationship during the course of that experience and in some ways I feel like a part of their family. Even though I never met their husband/father, I feel like we would have been friends and it was an honor to help his family in a way he no longer could, i.e., by just listening to them when they needed support.

One client at a time. Our team handles a high volume of injury cases. We have 28 attorneys and 60 non-attorney staff members. We see in a month what some law firms do not see in 5 years. This leads to our development of tremendous institutional knowledge which we leverage to provide consistent and thorough results for our clients. We look at every new legal issue as a challenge and when we develop a solution for our client(s) to a new problem, we create a playbook or best practices approach to this problem for use when we see it again for another client in the future. Of course, every case is unique so we cannot have all the answers but our vast experience has allowed us to develop a scalable and successful practice of which I am very proud.

Responsiveness and honesty. Some clients think they want an attorney to tell them what they want to hear. That never ends well however. Sometimes as lawyers we have to deliver bad news. Clients should welcome hearing the good and the bad about their case so they can make an informed decision and not waste their time if a case cannot be successfully pursued for any reason.

Every case is different. Every Judge is different. Every Courthouse is different. For this reason, it is imperative to have local knowledge no matter what kind of legal issue you are experiencing. Local sometimes just means an Ohio lawyer, as compared to an out of state lawyer. But sometimes a local case does require a more local lawyer, like one from the same county or part of the state.

We can typically provide enough information for a prospective client to decide if they need to hire an attorney or not for their legal problem. Some cases are more complex than others so a definitive answer cannot always be obtained from a single phone call. Regardless of whether you talk to us once or several times, we never charge for consultation.

It is important to know - who, what, where, why and when. Who was injured. What injuries and damages were caused. Where and when did this happen and why did this occur. If you have specifics, that is always better (i.e., names of others involved, addresses, proper spelling of other parties, police report, incident report, names of insurance companies involved and contact information for any insurance adjuster or claims representative(s). It is also important to know what insurance you may have and the names and location of any doctors or medical facilities that treated you for your injuries.

Most lawyers truly care about people. Most lawyers are competent and decent people. What separates us from other lawyers is our depth of knowledge and the vast team of talented people we employ who work together to achieve great results for out clients. We believe our results separate us and we are proud of it.

Getting to know my clients, learning and then telling their stories. It is a privilege to help and serve others. Injury attorneys sometimes get a bad rap but generally they are the most caring and sincere people. It is hard not to be empathetic to someone who was hurt and is now getting the run around from an insurance company or the bureau of workers compensation. We meet clients where they are at, which is usually a compromised and frustrated place. It is very rewarding when you can educate and empower your client to overcome.

I enjoy fishing, boating, snow skiing, spending time with my family, supporting Cleveland sports teams and coaching youth sports. I have coached travel baseball, flag football, tackle football and basketball for almost 10 years. I enjoy teaching and learning from my players and nothing gives me greater satisfaction than working on a concept together in practice and then seeing my players execute that concept in a game. We learn more from our losses than our victories in life so its not just about winning when I coach - but I HATE TOO LOSE!
