I've only ever met a handful of people in life like Michael Yates. He is completely trustworthy and I never had to think about whether his recommendations were in my best interest or would lead to the best outcome. My case could have been simple but became complex and acrimonious, and Michael navigated the entire case brilliantly. I was able to arrive at a resolution, with some compromises, and that resolved the case at the 11th hour without trial. He is a compassionate attorney but definitely has the clout when necessary to protect my best interests. As I came to know Michael personally through this case's twists and turns I grew to like and respect him as a person beyond his obvious and significant legal prowess, too. He is a man of such deep integrity and humility, and is very well respected by his peers and judges alike. And his added love of Monty Python was an unexpected surprise, and sometimes necessary intermission! Michael's team of Louise, Janice, and David were all impeccable to work with and efficient at guiding my way through my case. How is it possible to be one of the BEST attorneys in town and to have only one review? I am not sure, but I about fell off my chair when I saw this listing. I met Michael Yates 20 years ago when he helped me through some very difficult times; since then he has been my go to attorney for any family law issues and his firm has represented me a few more times. If you want a GREAT attorney who is knowledgeable, experienced, empathetic, kind but above all honest! Call Michael, he is no doubt the attorney you are looking for. I worked with Jackie just last year and she is no doubt a very good and professional attorney. Yates Family Law is, in my opinion, the best law firm to call when you need things to go right!

My soon to be husband and I hired Michael Yates. Because I was not a named party he treated me terribly. My significant other was on a very dangerous high risk job site, He gave Michael and his staff power of attorney to speak with me instead of calling him. If we provided him every bit of information to win in court, and then he lost it all and his office blew up his phone 2 days before court, Almost causing him to give a life threatening accident. We have a very unique situation. My significant others ex is extremely jealous. She went as far as to commit purgery and falsify several documents. Although we did win in court we feel it was more due to what we provided than Michael's skill. There is a lot of credible reason for us to believe that the ex would try to Cause one or both of us to be harmed. Michael brushed this off. Shame on him. Also quoted us $3000 to get the simple matter resolved And then charged us nearly 3 times as much even though the other party didn't even file anything additional. He hired transcribers That were extremely expensive in comparison to industry standard. He then told us we needed to pay them but we have no contract to do so. We inquired with them to pay them. And they told us we needed to pay him. Felt like a scam. Beware!

This man was hired by my former abusive spouse who is law enforcement. I agree he is in bed with the judges and this would make sense as judges are just attorneys not regulated by the state. The state bar in Oregon is not regulated by the state, it’s owned and operated by private attorneys. Mr. Yates tried to badger me and even went to tell the court that I ‘needed to be put in my place’ I was there on a false report and received sanctions not related to the original filing.
