ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Michael R. Burk received a BA (with honors) from UC-Santa Barbara in 1968, where he was a Regents Scholar for four years. He subsequently received a MA from UNC Chapel Hill in 1972 (European history). He earned his JD (with honors) from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1975, where he was the managing editor of the law review and had two articles published in the review.

PRACTICE

Michael R. Burk has practiced family law and injury law since 1975, when he graduated from Santa Clara University and was admitted to the Bar. He has extensive trial experience, including multiple major jury trials (injury cases) and bench trials (family law). He has successfully tried cases addressing the most familiar aspects of family law, including a wide variety of custody, support and property issues. He has also secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in verdicts for victims of negligence. His professional background and extensive trial experience equip him with a profound knowledge of the family law and civil (injury) proceedings, as well as the ability to secure excellent results in the negotiation of family law and injury cases which might or might not benefit from trial.

Michael R. Burk has served as a family law and civil pro tem judge in Santa Clara County. Mr. Burk is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association (including having served more than ten (10) years on the family law executive committee), the State Bar of California, the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association, and the California Association of Consumer Attorneys. Mr. Burk has been admitted to practice before all the courts of the State of California and the federal United States district court.
