S. Stewart Smith serves as an Associate at Belkin Burden Wenig & Goldman, LLP.  He joined the firm in 2002 and practices administrative, real property, foreclosure and bankruptcy law in addition to handling real estate litigation cases.
 
Mr. Smith is a member of the New York State and Connecticut Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before the Federal Courts of both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.  He earned his Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College in Boston Massachusetts.
 
Mr. Smith handles a myriad of matters concerning rent regulatory, demolition/construction, real property and foreclosure issues at both the administrative and judicial levels.  He also represents the interests of creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.  Mr. Smith has represented owners in various proceedings before the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, the New York State Division of Human Rights, the New York City Loft Board, the New York City Commission on Human Rights, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development of the City of New York, the New York City Environmental Control Board and the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.  Mr. Smith has also litigated in the New York State Courts as well as the Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts.
 
Prior to joining BBWG, Mr. Smith had a wide range of experience including the areas of landlord/tenant, co-op/condo, labor, construction, agricultural, entertainment, trusts and estates, bankruptcy, creditor's rights, transactional and appellate practice.
 
Mr. Smith was recently interviewed for an article in the Apartment Law Insider concerning the effect on real property owners of the recent sweeping amendments to the United States Bankruptcy Code and has authored and co-authored several articles in the firm's monthly newsletter Update concerning bankruptcy issues relevant to owners of commercial and residential properties.
