Carmen Jo Rejda-Ponce (“CJ”) is a Principal in Germer’s Houston office, but her practice takes her all across Texas. Dennis Spurling is a native of Southern California. He began his legal career as an associate at a small Plaintiff oriented personal injury firm in New Orleans, Louisiana. where he has been licensed to practice law since he was sworn in October 2000. A native of Angleton, Texas in Brazoria County, Jeff Gilbert is a 6th generation Texan with deep roots to his community. Graduating from Angleton High School in 1978, Mr. Gilbert attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where he was involved in the leadership of many campus service and social organizations. Upon completion of his business degree (BBA) in 1982, Mr. Gilbert returned to Brazoria County going to work for the First Freeport National Bank in Freeport, Texas. Mr. Gilbert later returned to Baylor where he enrolled in the graduate school of business obtaining his degree (MBA) while working as the night manager of the Baylor Student Union. Upon graduation, Mr. Gilbert began a career in banking and corporate investments before entering South Texas College of Law at the age of 27. While in law school, Jeff participated in many intramural moot court and mock trial competitions. Interestingly and of note, Jeff tried and won his first jury trial while in law school serving as an intern with the Harris County District Attorney's office before receiving his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in December 1989. Chris Pearson is a principal at Germer in Austin, Texas. Chris is licensed to practice in Texas and Oklahoma and has over 35 years of experience as a trial attorney. My Interest in criminal law is rooted in one thing -- my desire to help people. I grew up in Midland, Texas, where I received a bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of Texas. Later, I was awarded an academic scholarship to the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where I made the Dean's List and honor roll and received my law degree. After completing a comprehensive internship at the East Lansing, Michigan, firm of Bodwin & Fuzak, P.C., I worked as a civil contract attorney for Daffer McDaniel, LLP in Austin, Texas on a large class action lawsuit. Afterward, I served as a criminal and family law attorney at an established law firm in Georgetown, Texas. The latter experience found me defending clients on the wide spectrum of criminal law charges I address in my current independent practice. My success in this area included helping clients suffering from mental illness receive a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. The tremendous experience and knowledge I gained in daily negotiations with local prosecutors and courts combined with my ongoing desire to help people protect their liberties in the face of criminal charges now drive everything I do in my own law office.
