Todd B. Portune, Attorney

Todd Portune is a principal in Cook, Portune & Logothetis. His 23 years of legal practice have been primarily in the field of general civil litigation. Mr. Portune has been involved with several significant legal decisions which include: the largest slip and fall jury verdict in Hamilton County [at the time]; a landmark landslide case that redefined statutes of limitation repose in Ohio; age, sex, and race discrimination suits; wrongful discharge cases; a series of construction law cases representing both aggrieved homeowners and, at one time, the President of the Homebuilders association; representation of the Greater Cincinnati Apartment Owners Association in litigation and a public rally against the City of Cincinnati that extended free trash collection to city apartment dwellers thereafter [currently going on over 20 years from when the city first elected to discontinue the service]; and several medical malpractice cases. Mr. Portune has also been involved with several highly featured cases which include: a landmark handicap discrimination case featured on ABC World News Tonight that helped in the passage of the ADA; a Buy-American Act case featured on 60 Minutes; and a Kentucky mineral rights case where Mr. Portune represented 69 aggrieved property owners in a case where he won a seven figure victory against a multi-national energy company in that company's only loss in a contested case.

Mr. Portune graduated from Oberlin College in 1980 with a political science degree, and was inducted into the college's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 for his participation in track, football, and cross country. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law where he became President of the Student Bar Association, received Order of the Barristers honors and graduated in 1983. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Portune worked in the area of civil rights and later Kentucky mineral law. Named both a Kentucky Colonel and a Duke of Hazard, KY., he provided professional services on behalf of the Inclusion Network a non-profit advocacy agency for people with disabilities.

In January 1993, Mr. Portune was appointed to Cincinnati City Council and was elected thereafter to four separate terms on Council. In November 2000, Mr. Portune was elected to the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners and currently serves as President of the commission where he is the first Democratic president in more than 40 years. Mr. Portune also serves as the Chair of the county's Homeland Security Commission, is Chair of the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District Policy Committee, is President of the County Family and Children First Council, is Vice Chair of the Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency; sits on the Regional Health Collaborative Council, is on the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana (OKI) Regional Council of Governments Board of Trustees, is a member of the Hamilton County Transportation Improvement District, and serves on the Regional Terrorism Preparedness Advisory Team.

Mr. Portune and his wife Angie, their twins Ellyse and Ethan, and daughter Emma reside in Green Township.
