Our firm litigated a medical malpractice case where the hospital claimed it did nothing wrong by not instituting additional warnings and protections for patients at risk for sleep apnea. After the case was over, we were informed by a local resident that the hospital was now tagging patients at risk for sleep apnea with a big bracelet that said "Sleep apnea". Even if we weren't as successful at trial as we hoped, I know we made a difference in bringing the case.

Building a successful practice is all about results and doing a good job for your client. Even though you might not always win, if you have done good work and prepared well your client will know and the other side will know. This will help future clients and make your past clients feel appreciated and heard.

When hiring an attorney clients need to ask about their specific experience in their type of case and also what type of experience they will have as a client. Just because someone is a lawyer does not mean they are qualified to handle your personal injury or a wrongful death case. Will there be a legal assistant assigned to my case? How often will I receive updates about my case? A good lawyer will explain this up front and show that your case isn't just one more on their huge pile.

Local knowledge is very important to success in cases. When an attorney is known in the community by other attorneys and the people who will comprise the jury it is helpful.

During free consultations we listen to clients and tell them whether or not we feel we can assist them in a meaningful way. If we don't feel we can provide enough value for our fee, we are honest and give the caller some good tips on proceeding on their own or with a different firm.

During free consultations for injury cases we need to understand how the injury happened, what medical treatment has occurred, and what kind of future treatment the client will need. We also want to understand the impact on the client's life due to the injuries. For family law cases we need to know all the parties involved, some history between the parties, and the caller's desired outcome.

Our law firm is special in that we work together as a team, 100%. There no cases that belong to one attorney. When you hire our firm you hire the entire firm. This allows us to efficiently allocate resources and has allowed our smaller firm to handle smaller but also very large stakes cases worth millions of dollars. We are highly experienced in personal injury and wrongful death cases, handling every aspect of it from start to finish with great expertise.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is helping people feel like someone acknowledges the harm they suffered, understands the harm, and knows how it has changed their life. Winning monetary compensation for them and seeing how that can help them simplify other parts of their life, to focus on their healing, makes me feel great.

In addition to law I am very interested in technology, real estate, and history.

In the community I am a very active member of my local Rotary club where we volunteer our time and money to worthy causes locally and also internationally. Our firm sponsors several different community events to help provide local entertainment and also support to those in need.

The Eighth Circuit on Thursday affirmed an Iowa couple's $2.4 million personal injury jury trial win against Vulcan Ladder and its Chinese manufacturer, ruling that an expert witness' testimony saying a safer design for the ladder at issue was feasible is enough to back up the award.
