While attending law school, Mr. Karlin completed an externship for the Honorable Cynthia Holcomb Hall of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Prior to forming Karlin & Karlin in 1993, Marc Karlin worked as an associate attorney in law firms in San Diego and Los Angeles.

• PERSONAL INJURY Confidential Wrongful Death Action, San Bernardino County Superior Court. We obtained a settlement of $2,000,000.00 for our clients, the parents of a single, unemployed adult male who was killed by a hit-and-run driver. Kayla Cuevas v. China Buffet, Orange County Superior Court. Our client, four-year-old Kayla Cuevas, suffered second degree burns when a food server at a restaurant she was patronizing spilled hot liquid on her. We recovered a total amount of $385,000.00 for Kayla, as well as for her sister and parents who witnessed her injury. BUSINESS LITIGATION/ENTERTAINMENT Zulme Calloway v. Calloway Entertainment, U.S. District Court, Los Angeles. We represented the widow of famed entertainer, Cab Calloway. We successfully brought suit in the U.S. District Court, Los Angeles, to recapture all of Cab Calloway’s intellectual property rights (copyrights, trademarks, licenses, etc.) that had been transferred by Cab Calloway just prior to his death. Elie Harfouche v. Haifa Wehbe, U.S. District Court, New Jersey. We obtained the dismissal of this multimillion dollar lawsuit brought against our client, the well-known Lebanese entertainer, Haifa Wehbe. We defended this lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, Camden, New Jersey. IMMIGRATION Marco Valdivia v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. District Court, Los Angeles. Successfully brought suit against the U.S. government to reverse the government’s decision to deport our client. Our client mistakenly believed he was a U.S. citizen and had admitted that he voted in a U.S. presidential election. On this basis, the government sought to remove our client, a newlywed father with several children, from the U.S. where he had lived since early childhood.
