Richard Wesley Bennett, Attorney

After graduating law school, Mr. Bennett joined the Galveston County District Attorney's Office where he tried numerous misdemeanor and felony jury trials. He was also assigned to oversee the gambling prosecutions in that county. Mr. Bennett gained valuable experience as to the inner workings, policies and procedures of state prosecutors and law enforcement agencies that can be used to your benefit.

After being promoted to felony chief of the 56th judicial district court, Mr. Bennett resigned to accept a position as a briefing attorney/law clerk to United States District Judge Marcia A. Crone in Beaumont, Texas. Thereafter, after a brief stint with a large Texas law firm, Mr. Bennett joined the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas Del Rio Division as an Assistant United States Attorney. During this time, Mr. Bennett prosecuted large complex federal narcotic conspiracy cases as well as a multitude of immigration, firearms, and alien smuggling conspiracies. Having knowledge from both sides of the bench, Mr. Bennett is in a unique position to use that knowledge and empower you in your defense against the Government.

After leaving the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. Bennett is now a founding partner of Jones Bennett LLP and is ready to defend you.

Mr. Bennett's practice focuses on federal and state criminal cases. On the federal side, Mr. Bennett's practice involves defending clients charged with any federal offense, including, but not limited to narcotic trafficking, possession, conspiracy, possession of firearms, alien smuggling, white collar crime, and immigration offenses. In addition, Mr. Bennett will take on federal appeals. On the state side, Mr. Bennett will defend clients charged with all felonies and misdemeanors, including state appeals.
