Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
A woman called me after nearly a 2-year fight with an insurance company. She was exhausted and done with the whole matter. She and her husband had been rear-ended at a stop light and she had sustained soft-tissue injuries that required an emergency room visit followed by lengthy physical therapy. After courteously repairing her car, the insurance company had appeared cooperative. She dutifully send them all of her medical bills and signed every medical release they asked for. Nonetheless, the insurance company repeatedly informed her that they could not settle the claim until they had all the records and they claimed they still did not have them all. She repeatedly called her providers insisting that they provide the insurance company with ALL the records, to which they complied. After just shy of 2 years and over $14K in accumulated medical bills, she felt it was time to consult with an attorney. Within 6 months, I had ALL of her medical bills reduced and paid and a 5-figure check in her hand.
How did you build a successful practice?
Responsiveness, track record, hard work, creativity, word of mouth, etc.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients need to understand that, when talking with a lawyer, the Client is the interviewer and the attorney is the interviewee. This means that the attorney is the one interviewing for the job. As such, the Client needs to make sure he/she is hiring someone he/she can work with on a long-term basis. This needs to be someone competent, confident and someone the Client can trust. Clients should ask as many questions as possible to ensure that the attorney is someone with integrity who will never over-promise but will instead strive to always over-deliver.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can provide an initial case assessment based on what the Client tells me. I can provide an explanation of the law and possible outcomes based on the facts known to me at that time.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Whether a criminal defense or personal injury matter, I require as much detail about the case as possible including: dates, places, times, witnesses, reports, pictures, videos etc.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I know what it's like to not be a lawyer. I had 2 full careers before becoming an attorney. First, I was an Air Force Officer followed by being a Construction Superintendent in the residential housing industry. These experiences help me relate to non-lawyers. I think this is important because most lawyers have no concept of how non-lawyers earn money. Many lawyers have it easy and thereby assume everyone else has it just as easy.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting to help people. I'd do it for free if I didn't have a mortgage and a family to care for. In both personal injury and criminal defense cases, my clients are ""the little guy"" and the forces against them are quite powerful. Putting my clients on equal footing with prosecutors or insurance companies is what I'm here for
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Philosophy.
