About Katrina
Katrina Jones originally became interested in the area of elder law while assisting a friend with a project on elder abuse while attending Colorado State University. She became amazed that the problem of elder abuse was growing in our society and would likely become worse as the baby boomer generation ages. Ms. Jones turned this interest into a legal practice focused on estate planning, probate, and planning for public benefits.
One of Ms. Jones' areas of expertise is estate planning, including complex and simple trusts, complex and simple wills, medical powers of attorney, and general powers of attorney. As a part of estate planning, Ms. Jones advises clients on distributions from and beneficiary designations for qualified retirement plans such as 401(k)s, traditional IRAs, and Roth IRAs. Ms. Jones has spoken at nursing homes on the topic of the role of general and medical powers of attorney.
A second area of expertise is probate. Ms. Jones assists clients with negotiating Colorado's system for managing and distributing the property of their friend or family member who has passed away.
Ms. Jones also enjoys assisting clients with planning for incapacity, including Medicaid eligibility for nursing home care. She has assisted clients with planning years to months in advance, and with the application through the county department of social services.
Ms. Jones is a member of the American Bar Association, the ABA Real Property and Probate Section, the Colorado Bar Association, the CBA Elder Law Section, and the Adams County Bar Association.
Ms. Jones received her Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado, School of Law where she was active in the Women's Law Caucus and participated in moot court competitions. Ms. Jones graduated cum laude from Colorado State University. Ms. Jones grew up in Colorado, graduating from Heritage High School in Littleton, and she presently resides in Thornton, Colorado, with her family.
