About Lane

Lane Thibodeaux has practiced law in the Brazos Valley area for twenty four years. He holds dual Board Certifications in Criminal Law and Personal Injury Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. This combination of dual board certifications is held by only 12 active, licensed attorneys in the State of Texas.

Mr. Thibodeaux has tried more than 100 cases to juries in State and Federal court. His criminal jury trial experience is diverse, ranging from defense of murder charges to driving while intoxicated cases. Mr. Thibodeaux has also served as a Special Prosecutor in both felony and misdemeanor cases in multiple counties in Texas. Mr. Thibodeaux has acted as lead counsel in 45 appeals, including multiple published opinions from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the highest appellate court for criminal cases in Texas.

Mr. Thibodeaux has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1985. He is a member of both the Criminal Justice and Juvenile Law Sections of the State Bar. Mr. Thibodeaux is also licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern, Western, and Northern Districts of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Mr. Thibodeaux is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He has been a member of the DWI committee for this statewide organization since 2009. Mr. Thibodeaux is also a member of the Brazos County Bar Association, serving as President of that organization in 2008. He is a past President of the Brazos Valley Young Lawyers Association. In 1991 Mr. Thibodeaux was awarded the Brazos County Bar Association Pro Bono Award in recognition for his dedication in serving the legal needs of the underprivileged.

Mr. Thibodeaux has been a guest lecturer at the Texas A & M University Health Science Center and the Bryan, Texas campus of Blinn College. His recurring topic of lecture at Blinn College is the use of forensic evidence in criminal trials.

Mr. Thibodeaux graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government where he was a member of the National Social Science Honor Society, Phi Gamma Mu.

Mr. Thibodeaux received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas in 1985. In Law School, Mr. Thibodeaux was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in the study of Constitutional Law, was named to the Dean's List and inducted into the honorary advocacy fraternity, The Order of Barristers.

He is married to former Brazos County Assistant District Attorney and Baylor Law School graduate Beth Smith Thibodeaux. They have three children. Mr. Thibodeaux has also completed four marathons, including the 2000 New York City Marathon.
