I do a fair amount of litigation. I once handled a case where my client owned lakeside property by a lake. His deed required him to maintain the dam that holds back the 15 acre lake. When he bought the property, he was not aware of this; it's is an expensive thing to do for someone not prepared. Due to melting snow and rainfall, the lake was in danger of overflowing and flooding the community. The EPA had to breach the dam; when that happened, the people who had lakeside property no longer had lakeside property. They sued, and I successfully got the case dismissed via a motion on the grounds that the deed to maintain the dam did not make him responsible for acts of natural force. It was an area of the law that is very obscure and quite interesting to me.

I like to take the cases and learn about the particular phenomena around the case. I once took on a case that involved an elevator dropping to the basement, and I had to learn about hydraulics of an elevator. When a public sanitation vehicle got into a car accident, I had to learn the braking distance of a ton 10 garbage truck under various circumstances. Every case is different; you have to live each case. I find it personally and professionally satisfying.

I'm a guy who doesn't leave the office until I've returned every telephone call and addressed everything in front of me. The most important thing is the ability to listen and read. You have to read the fine print. I have a very good track record; I'm on my 3rd generation of clients. I believe that the lawyer should be the solution, not the problem. I want to make a difference.

It certainly helps when you walk into a local court and the judge says "How you doing, Larry?" It's an intangible, and it certainly can't hurt. Courthouses aren't clubhouses. It is helpful to know the ins and outs, know the judges, know the court personnel.

I can provide basic information over the telephone. I would impart information enough to satisfy a potential client, although no attorney-client relationship has been established. As far as coming in for a first interview, I always hope the questions have been answered and that you know things now that didn't know an hour ago. I hope I have made an impact.

The most rewarding thing for me is if I am able to do for the person something that could not do themselves. I like to help with the question ""What would you do about this, Mr. Gordon?"" If you win, it's a good thing. You've returned things to a status quo.

I enjoy spending time with family, and also sports. I like to cook, I like to garden, I like cars, I like to take the dog for a walk. I have also driven a Formula 1 car. I've been involved in public service as an assistant DA, village prosecutor, and been on a planning commission as well.
