I have had the privilege of being in private law practice in Maryland for the last 19 years. I was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Howard S. Chasanow, both on the Circuit Court for Prince George's County, as well as on the Maryland Court of Appeals. Since 1990, I have also enjoyed tutoring some of Maryland's finest and brightest attorneys for the Maryland Essay Exam; all whom have been successful. Attorney Jason G. Miller brings over 15 years of criminal law experience to Alpert Schreyer Criminal Defense Attorneys. As a former assistant state’s attorney for Anne Arundel County, he has handled every type of criminal defense matter, from DUI and traffic-related matters to homicide. Having tried hundreds of criminal bench trials and dozens of criminal jury trials, Mr. Miller’s vast experience positions him well to challenge prosecutors at every facet of a trial. He began his legal career at the State’s Attorney’s Office and rose through the ranks from law clerk to Chief of the District Court. Mr. Miller spent time handling DUI’s and criminal misdemeanors, burglaries, violent crimes, and sexual offenses. He received a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) certification in the administration of standardized field sobriety tests in 2010. He has also attended the National Computer Forensics Institute twice for training related to computer forensics and cellular devices. For the last five years Mr. Miller was trusted with supervising and training all new attorneys. In 2021, he was named Director of Attorney Training for the entire State’s Attorney’s Office. His experience training uniquely positions him to advocate the best outcomes for his clients. In 2019 he was certified by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission as an instructor in constitutional law, criminal law, search warrants, use of force, and charging documents. Mr. Miller has been a frequent guest instructor to multiple local law enforcement agencies, at the University of Maryland DUI Institute, the Fort Meade Drunk & Drugged Driving seminar, and the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association. Mr. Miller began teaching introduction to trial advocacy to law students as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Baltimore School of Law in the spring of 2023. His experience allows him to teach the judge or jury about the deficiencies in the prosecution. In 2023, Mr. Miller was certified as a DWI detection and standardized field sobriety test instructor by the NHTSA. Mr. Miller was born and raised to a career firefighter in Northern Virginia. He spent time as a volunteer firefighter while pursuing his bachelors in fire and safety engineering technology. For years, Mr. Miller handled all of the arson cases in Anne Arundel County. In addition, he has presented numerous times as a subject matter expert at the International Association of Arson Investigators and also presented to the Maryland Fire and Explosion Investigators Association. His background and experience with complex criminal investigations and expert witnesses is a valuable asset to Alpert Schreyer Criminal Defense Attorneys. Having been in Maryland since 2005, Mr. Miller has made this area his home. He graduated cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2009 and was also a staff editor of their flagship journal, Law Review. Mr. Miller lives in Anne Arundel County with his wife and two children. He enjoys spending time at his children’s various sporting events, hiking, running, and fishing.

Attorney Ryan Zabel is committed to fighting for justice for his clients, whether they have been wrongfully injured or are facing criminal charges. Mr. Zabel was born and raised in North Carolina where he attended Appalachian State University for his undergraduate degree. After working in the commercial door and hardware industry for nine years, Mr. Zabel moved to Maryland to pursue his JD, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Zabel was a member of the Royal Graham Shannonhouse Honor Society. Mr. Zabel also served as a Staff Editor on the University of Baltimore Law Forum. During law school Mr. Zabel represented clients as a Rule 19 attorney through the Human Trafficking Prevention Project Clinic. After graduating from law school, Mr. Zabel secured a position as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Anthony Vittoria in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. During his clerkship, Mr. Zabel conducted research, drafted opinions and orders, and assisted the Judge in all aspects of both civil and criminal trials. Following his clerkship, Mr. Zabel worked at a firm specializing in professional malpractice defense. Mr. Zabel then moved on to his next endeavor as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County. While working as a prosecutor, Mr. Zabel prosecuted thousands of major motor vehicle and misdemeanor criminal cases. In addition to handling a significant volume of cases which allowed him to hone his trial skills, Mr. Zabel was also entrusted with the training of incoming attorneys. Mr. Zabel brings a wealth of knowledge and extensive trial experience. He is steadfast in his commitment to his clients and always fights for justice.
