About Richard

Richard E. Santee, Jr. is a resident of Hanover Township, a suburb of the City of Bethlehem, where he lives with his wife, Mollie and four children.

Rick is a 1973 magna cum laude graduate of Hofstra University, where, as a member of the University's Division I wrestling program, he was a two time Middle Atlantic Conference Champion. He subsequently received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1976. Practicing for more than thirty-two years in the Lehigh Valley, Rick is a partner in the firm of Shay, Santee & Kelhart, situated in downtown Bethlehem. The firm emphasizes litigation oriented matters—civil, insurance defense and personal injury litigation as well as domestic relations and family law.

A past President of the Northampton County Bar Association and former chair of its Civil Litigation/Civil Procedural Rules Committee, Mr. Santee has served on numerous PBA and PBI panels, serving as a lecturer in several PBI ethics programs; he developed a CLE approved program and panel discussion for arbitration practice and procedure in Northampton County. He is admitted to practice before the state courts of Pennsylvania as well as the federal courts, including the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Northampton County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations.

Mr. Santee has been a member of Advent Moravian Church in Hanover Township since 1984. Since then, Rick has served the Moravian Church in a number of capacities, sitting for twelve years as a member of the Provincial Elders Conference (the overall governing body of the Moravian Church, Northern Province). During that time he also served his local church in various ways: as President of its Board of Trustees, Chair of its Board of Elders, Chair of its Building Committee, Chair of its Christian Education Committee and coach of its youth team entry in the Greater Bethlehem Church Basketball League. In 2000-2001 he chaired a denominational Task Force on Human Sexuality and the Church. He continues to serve on the denomination's Ordination Review Committee, the Interprovincial Board of Communications, and is President of the Moravian Book Shop Board of Directors. He currently serves as Chancellor (legal counsel) to the denomination and Chair of the denomination's Synods (regional and national denominational gatherings).

Active in the community, Rick is a member of the Bethlehem Morningstar Rotary Club, where he serves as a member of the Board. He is the Committee Chair of Boy Scout Troop 302 and Nominating Committee Chair for the South Mountain District, BSA. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Saucon Mutual Insurance Company.
