Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I tried an eviction case that ended with a judgment in favor of a tenant, who had two disabled children. I brought a case to the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) and obtained a Reasonable Cause Finding in a case involving a reasonable accommodation issue.
How did you build a successful practice?
A successful practice is a result of many different types of cases and clients. Each case is different, each client is different. A good practice grows out of having to find new ways to serve a broad range of clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Transparency, experience, honesty and a thorough understanding of the issues brought by the client.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Knowing the forums, whether the case is being filed at a superior court level, federal, a commission it's critical to prepare your legal strategy. A good understanding of the judges' idiosyncrasy, and the rules applicable to each forum is essential in preparing for a case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Basic advise on a few legal options, where to file, what to file.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
If the client has consulted with another attorney, is the client is the moving party, is the client the plaintiff/complainant or defendant/respondent, date of incident/ injury/ termination, status of pleadings, new case, pending case.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I'm very good at teaching. I explain to my clients what to expect in the early stages of litigation as well as during the pendency of the litigation. I always talk about realistic expectations and some insider's information that most people do not know.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Being able to take challenges and overcome barriers. It is very rewarding to help clients get the outcome and being able to redress the wrong when clients have been negatively impacted by different situations.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Church, music, singing.
Are you involved in your community?
I have done a lot of volunteer work with organizations helping domestic violence victims and child abuse. I served as an advisor for employment matters, hired and interviewed hundreds of candidates, was able to mentor candidates for employment interviews.
