Scott Smith became an attorney out of his desire to help others. “Too many times individuals are faced with legal situations they are unable to navigate on their own,” Scott says. “That is where I come in,” explains Scott. “It does not matter if it’s a criminal, a family law, or a business matter, you need someone that can stand up for you and advocate for your best interest.” During an initial consultation with Scott, you will find him receptive to your needs. Scott then works one-on-one with each client to identify their goals and priorities and how the law relates to their unique situation. Scott then designs a strategy focused on each clients’ unique situation and interests. Scott was born in Dothan, Alabama and has a real passion for his community. A graduate of Cottonwood High School, Scott worked for two different Fortune 500 companies during the day, while he attended Troy University Dothan at night. Scott graduated with honors from Troy with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in finance. Driven by his desire to help others, Scott attended Faulkner University, Jones School of Law. Scott knew that he would be most effective as an attorney if he fully dedicated himself to learning the law. His hard work and dedication in law school earned him the honor of graduating first in his class (summa cum laude) and induction into Order of Barristers. Also, Scott served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Faulkner Law Review, where he helped guide this prestigious publication to new heights. Scott also participated in trial advocacy during law school, where he traveled the nation competing in and winning national trial competitions. After graduation, Scott furthered his legal education and understanding of the law from the “other side of the bench” when he served as a law clerk to a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Alabama for two years. Scott is ready to serve you no matter your legal need.

One of the best cross-examinations I have ever heard was done by Ralph Hornsby, Jr. He and Bud Watson were trying a highly publicized nursing home case. The courtroom was full of spectators every day. Law firms were sending summer interns and associates to watch because of the high level of trial skills on both sides and because of the expected verdict. Ralph, Jr. was cross-examining the manager of the nursing home. He knew she had six points of vulnerability. He hit them. He was gentlemanly, but he was forceful. It was really a professional job. When the case was over, a verdict of over five million dollars came and Bud Watson left a copy of that cross-examination transcript in Ralph, Jr.s’ office chair with a note that he should save it for his grand kids. That was early in Ralph, Jr.’s career with the firm. He is not much older than I am and had graduated with a great record from the University of Alabama, School of Law, only a few years before I did but he was handling high level litigation and doing it with real skill. Things seem to come easy to Ralph, Jr. He has a great personality and nearly always gets more in negotiations than others might because he has such a great way of interacting with people. Ralph, Jr. and I have tried a number of cases together and that personality is always an asset with the Court and with jurors. Ralph has achieved seven figure results in numerous negotiations but more importantly he has had that happen many times in court. It’s not just personality though. Ralph, Jr. is a great student of the law and, as that cross-examination demonstrated, a highly competent trial lawyer. He is a graduate of the National College of Trial Advocacy, he’s been inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates, and has been selected into Super Lawyers. But even more significant in this business, Ralph, Jr. really cares about his clients and wants to help them. That’s the part about him I most want to emulate. Ralph graduated high in his class at the University of Alabama, School of Law in 1992. Ralph, Jr. is a member of the Alabama State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association and the Alabama Association for Justice. He also serves as a Barrister in the Madison County American Inns of Court. Ralph is married to Betty. They have twin girls and a son.

Ferris Ritchey has over 35 years of experience in a wide range of legal matters with an emphasis on Domestic Relations, Mediation, Collaborative, Probate and Estate Planning. As a domestic relations attorney, Ferris attempts to resolve complicated divorce issues such as custody and property settlement in a manner to avoid litigation if possible. Although parties to a divorce will no longer be husband and wife they will still be Mom and Dad attending their child or children’s school functions, ball games, recitals, other extra-curricular activities, graduations, wedding and more. To posture a case in a way that destroys the family is a disservice that should be avoided. This philosophy bodes well in probate matters also. Ferris works closely with trained and experienced health professionals to assist his clients in navigating the perils of divorce and similar type cases.
