About Alan

Alan practices general Intellectual Property law with an emphasis on developing business strategies and counseling clients on matters relating to technology and innovation. His practice encompasses all phases of patent portfolio management, including prosecution, searches, opinions, technology transfer, licensing infringement/validity assessment and dispute resolution. Alan has experience in mechanical technologies, computer architecture, digital logic, software and electronic circuitry. Alan also advises clients in the entertainment and music industry on various legal and business transactions.

As an Electrical Engineer at General Electric Medical Systems, Alan designed digital and analog electrical circuits in GE's X-Ray and Ultrasound Technology Groups. In addition to the practice of Intellectual Property law, Alan served as an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School and is very active in the community. He represents indigent clients on pro bono legal matters and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota State Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyers Network and governing council of the Minnesota State Bar Association Computer Law Section. Alan is also active in law firm management having served one term on Merchant & Gould's Executive Committee. Alan is currently the Managing Partner of Merchant & Gould's Atlanta Office.
