About Allan

I am a solo practitioner, concentrating in the area of matrimonial and family law. This includes uncontested and contested divorces, divorce mediation, separation agreements, support, custody, and prenuptial agreements.

I approach law from a very personal view, looking to the total and individual needs of my clients. I have a diversified background, including tenure as a college professor and administrator, which, I believe, has given me a humanistic perspective. I am always in touch with my clients and am always available to remedy their problems and bring them peace of mind. If possible, using the less painful and less expensive divorce mediation method with my wife Iris social work partner for mediation, who has had many years of experience helping individuals and families get through this difficult time.

The strength of my practice is that it is a very personal practice. I am always available for my clients–days, nights and weekends, will always immediately get back to them, will give them personal attention, and they will work only with me, except for divorce mediation, and you will not have to deal with other associates, paralegals or staff.

My fees are affordable and the initial phone or office consultation is free. I am available, if necessary, days, evenings and weekends. I practice in Rockland, Westchester, Orange and surrounding New York counties.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

In one case, my client wanted physical custody of her daughters. We went to trial and she was able to get custody, child support, alimony and the house. Another client was paying, according to the guidelines, an excess of child support and alimony. I was able to significantly reduce this and get him more visitation with his son.

How did you build a successful practice?

I was a college professor for many years prior to becoming a lawyer. When I became a lawyer, I had a great deal of life experience that I was able to translate into helping my clients get their lives together. I started off having assigned cases to learn how to do it. When I started my own practice, I always immediately answered phone calls and meet the legal and life needs of my clients. I care about them and fervently want to succeed in getting them the best possible results.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

It is fundamental that the lawyer has a knowledge of how to win cases using strategy and understanding of the law. Individuals need a lawyer who has a genuine desire to help their current and future lives. Sincerity and honesty are also key.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It is good to be respected in the courts, and know how the judges and other attorneys think and behave.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Everything. I am good at analyzing a case and honestly letting the client know exactly what their chances of success are. I take the time to hear the person out and make them feel better.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

I need the who, when, where, what and how facts. I have the patience to listen and advise.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am almost always available: day, night, weekend. I cater to my clients, and always return their calls asap. I care about them and strive to get the best results. It is a personal thing for me. In fighting for clients, I consider them my partners. I consult with them constantly. They fully know what is going on and can ask me anything.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is helping my client be happy on their way to a better life.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I was a college professor with a BA, MA, PH.D AND J.D. I enjoy learning. I have written several books. I am an amateur photographer, and my wife and I travel extensively to all parts of the world.

Are you involved in your community?

I was a professor and administrator of paralegal programs at the City University of New York. Students still contact me. At one point, I was the director of common cause, an organization that strives for better government.
