Testimonials

Not long ago, I was an employed psychologist and worth millions of dollars. The economy took a downturn and like many people, I lost my employment and my fortune threatened. I paid one attorney over $20,000.00 for litigation to save property from foreclosure but could not communicate with him despite leaving multiple telephone messages. It was not until I reviewed the San Diego County Court’s website that I learned that my case had been removed to the Federal District Court. A search of the federal Court’s website revealed that my case had been dismissed. My attorney never informed me of this fact. The banks quickly sold the properties that were once worth millions. I hired another attorney to reorganize in bankruptcy under Chapter 11 only to learn that the only experience that he had in chapter 11 bankruptcies was in taking to large sums of money and not completing the work. I paid him $45,500.00 that was not returned despite the court ordering him to disgorge the fees. He is no longer licensed to practice law in the State of California but I was out even more money. I had lost faith in attorneys until I was referred to the Law Offices of Andrew H. Griffin III, APC . I paid no retainer to Mr. Griffin. He was sympathetic to my situation. He and his staff worked hard on my case despite the fact that they had no retainer from which to draw upon. The Bankruptcy Court promptly approved his employment and my case was quickly back on track. Last week the Bankruptcy Court confirmed my Chapter 11 plan. It was a long and hard road to completion. I know that it would not have happened without the professionalism of Mr. Griffin and his staff. I had the feeling that he was working for my best interests and not motivated by money. As a result of his efforts, I retained all of my remaining real estate and reduced the debt on those properties to their current market value. I would strongly and have recommended Mr. Griffin for anyone who needs a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy attorney. -RB-

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

A woman came to me after two unsuccessful attempts to remove a tenant that had not paid rent for over a year. She was 7 months pregnant and clearly emotionally stressed regarding the eviction. She had no money to pay an attorney because the tenant was not paying the rent and she was behind in the mortgage payment with the bank threatening foreclosure. The tenant did everything she could do to delay the eviction process. She filed a motion to quash, followed by a demurrer, followed by a discrimination action the federal court and ultimately a bankruptcy to stop the eviction. Had it not been for my knowledge of the bankruptcy and landlord-tenant laws, the tenant would have remained in the unit living for free another six months. Thanks to my work she was allowed to save her home and remove the tenant.

How did you build a successful practice?

My practice has been built on 4 principle pillars 1) living my life on undivided integrity 2) Demonstrating a positive attitude 3) Considering other people's interest as more important than my own and 4)Not settling for anything less than excellence. I started my practice over 35 years ago, before the internet became the leading source of information. I obtained my clients based upon referrals as a result of following these 4 principals. The referral allowed me to stay in business in the same location for over 30 years. As a result, I have been able to build a successful practice.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

A client should like to a lawyer who, listens, is informed and will be zealous in the pursuit of the case. The attorney should have integrity, be positive, consider his client's problems as more important than their own, and pursuing excellence.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Knowledge of the Courts and/or clerks along with the reputation of a lawyer is critical not only to the lawyer's practice but to the clients that he or she represents. This office regularly practices before the 4 bankruptcy judges and has a knowledge of the Southern District of California Bankruptcy court's policies and procedures and personnel. Running afoul of the local rules of court can be a disaster to a client's case. The same is true of the Landlord/Tenant actions. I am in the Unlawful Detainer (eviction) Courtroom 3 to 5 times each week. Knowledge of the law is imperative, but knowledge of local rules, and personnel (especially the judges and their tendencies) can be the difference in winning or losing.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I believe in keeping the client informed. I have videos, blogs and weekly newsletters that I prepare for my clients. There is a private online board where the clients are informed of every aspect of their case. They can upload and download receive all documents related to their case along with a calendar of events relevant to their case. The site allows messages to be sent between the client and all staff members.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is touching the lives of others in a positive manner. That was the goal when I applied for law schools over 40 years ago and I am happy to say that I continue to fulfill that goal.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am a licensed California Real Estate Broker so I bring my knowledge of real estate practice with my knowledge of the law. I am a musician and involved in the community.

Are you involved in your community?

I am an active member of my church. I play the piano/keyboard and am the leader of the worship and praise service. I am a father of an active 8-year-old daughter which I teach in group youth piano classes.
