Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented a client who had two children with her fiancé where paternity had never been established. He passed away before he was deemed to be the children’s legal father. I was able to obtain access to blood that had been drawn from him prior to his death. As a result, I proved his paternity after his death, resulting in the children receiving Social Security benefits.
How did you build a successful practice?
I credit the success of my practice to choosing the right staff. My paralegal, legal assistants and associate attorney have a great synergy and work well together. Working with them makes my job easier and makes our work place enjoyable!
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should remember hiring a lawyer is like a job interview and they should not be afraid to ask important questions. How long have you been practicing law? Tell me about the success you’ve had? Why should I pick you? How many cases have you litigated? How much of your practice is devoted to my type of law? There also needs to be chemistry; do your personalities meld? What is the strategy we are going to take to achieve a positive outcome? Depending on the type of case will determine what is important for the representation. Don’t rely just on fancy marketing….do your homework.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
While knowledge of where you are handling a case is important, a lawyer’s knowledge is the key to a successful case. Any attorney who is practicing in a different jurisdiction other than their local one, has the ability to research what may be different in that jurisdiction and should. I have practiced in many counties outside of my local sphere and have been successful. It is important to find a local attorney that you can ask questions to or contactl the clerk’s office for guidance.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
During an initial phone consultation I like to provide an overview of the process, how long the case is expected to last and what the exceptions are if the client hires me.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Their name, their spouses’ name, date of marriage, how long have they lived in Florida, do they have any children?
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
My knowledge, experience and the passion for every case I take on makes me different then other lawyers in my community.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I enjoy taking on cases that are thought to be impossible to win and turning it around for the client, ending in a positive result for them.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am an avid reader and love to travel. Italy is my favorite place to visit and I have become an expert in all things Italian! I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my two grandchildren that I get to spoil.I have two fur babies, Ali, The Cavalier King Charles and Dixie, the Chiweenie.
Are you involved in your community?
I am a supporter of our local law-enforcement and schools. I’ve sponsored numerous community events and I’m active in many organizations in the legal community. I’ve contributed countless hours of my time representing individuals who unable to afford legal representation through our local legal aid office.
