He has since handled a number of high profile cases involving, among others, prominent business executives, nationally known sports personalities, and law enforcement figures.
Barry's notable accomplishments include:
- Law and Politics magazine balloted 61,000 Texas attorneys to determine the best lawyers in Texas. Barry was voted by his peers as one of Texas' Top 100 Superlawyers and named in Texas Monthly Magazine.
- He has been listed in the 2001-2009 editions of Best Lawyers in America.
- He was profiled in the 2009 May issue of D Magazine as one of Dallas' elite criminal defense attorneys.
- Barry is a "Master" in the prestigious Patrick E. Higginbotham American Inn of Court.
- He has been voted one of the top 500 lawyers in America by Law Dragon.com.
Also, Barry has earned a national reputation as a legal commentator. He has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News National and regularly appears as a guest legal analyst on Court TV.
Barry Sorrels knows the system - the courts, the players and the intricate machinery of Criminal Justice. His expertise in the law and his professional relationships come from years of experience, both as a Prosecutor and Defense Attorney. His toughness and ability to grasp a complex world of legal proceedings can be traced back to his beginnings in the highly competitive world of the Ivy League. Mr. Sorrels graduated from Columbia University in New York City. He was MVP of the Varsity football team and received numerous post season honors including All Ivy League, All East and Honorable Mention All-American. He returned to his native Texas to attend Southern Methodist University School of Law.
After graduation he served two years as Assistant District Attorney, building a formidable reputation for toughness and savvy around the courthouse. Mr. Sorrels left to engage in private practice in Dallas.
In addition to Mr. Sorrels' active State court practice, which includes cases such as DWI, possession of controlled substance, burglary, fraud, and other cases handled in the State courts, over the years Mr. Sorrels has also built a substantial federal white collar criminal law practice. Mr. Sorrels handles complicated federal cases on a regular basis.
