About Barry

Barry D. Williams was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1953 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University in 1975 (receiving the highest honor, the St. Ignacious Award), and a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in 1978.  He is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico, State Bar of California, American Bar Association (member of the Business Law Section) and the American Health Lawyers Association.  Mr. Williams is admitted to practice before all the state and federal courts in New Mexico , Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.  He is rated av by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.*

 

Mr. Williams co-authored a training text for attorneys, Basic Corporate Law in New Mexico, and has established precedent in a wide range of cases including criminal law, (State v. Griffen, 100 NM 75 (Ct. App. 1983), attorneys charging liens (Philipbar v. Philipbar, 1999 NMCA-063, (NM Ct. App. 1999) and liens in construction and other disputes (C.J.C., Inc. v. Western States Mechanical, 834 F.2d 1533); and enforcement of foreign judgments (Society of Lloyd's v. Reinhart, 402 F.3d 982); and from 1984-1993 served as lead counsel in both State Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court proceedings for the largest Court Appointed Receivership in New Mexico.  He practices in the areas of corporate, business, health care, trust and estate disputes, employment and liquor licensing law, and negotiated settlements of complex litigation. 

 

Mr. Williams is active in several community groups and also serves as pro bono counsel to others.  He is a member of the Board and past state chair of the New Mexico Council on Crime and Delinquency, former President of the One Hundred Club of New Mexico, and is a member and past chair of the Development Council for historic San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church.
