About Barton

Barton S. Sacher is President and a founding director of the Firm, and manages the Litigation group. His principal areas of practice are corporate and securities law, including litigation, investigations and white collar crime. In these areas, he represents public companies, broker/dealers, banks and other financial institutions.

Mr. Sacher's expertise in securities law results from 30 years of practice handling significant federal and state court litigations, arbitrations, and enforcement proceedings in both private practice and government service. Mr. Sacher was Chief of Investigations and Enforcement for the SEC regional office in Atlanta from 1979-1985, and he managed the SEC's most complex enforcement investigations and litigation in the Southeast. Mr. Sacher's experience with the SEC began in Washington, D.C. as an attorney and trial counsel in the Division of Enforcement. From 1977-1979, he worked on legislation (the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Right to Financial Privacy Act), directed enforcement programs involving banks and holdings companies, and was also responsible for several significant SEC enforcement actions, which established nation-wide precedents.

After receiving his J.D. in 1973, Mr. Sacher served as law clerk to the Honorable Sam C. Pointer, Jr., U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama. From 1974-1977, Mr. Sacher was an associate at Berkowitz, Lefkovitz & Patrick, concentrating on securities class action, receivership and general commercial litigation.

In early 1986, Mr. Sacher returned to private practice in Miami. A partner in Tew Jorden Schulte & Beasley, he handled multi-million dollar litigations for banks, broker/dealers, public companies, insurance companies and major shareholders.

Mr. Sacher has established an exceptional courtroom record in the numerous high profile, multi-million dollar litigations and trials he has handled.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 9, 1948, he graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business Management (1970), and a Juris Doctor degree (1973). As a law student, he was Articles Editor for The Alabama Law Review and appointed to Order of the Coif, among various other honors. He was also recognized in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, and was elected President of the Alabama Student Union as a junior in 1967.

Mr. Sacher is admitted to practice before the following courts: the Supreme Court of the United States, Alabama and Florida; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Fourth, Fifth, and Eleventh Circuits; and numerous U.S. District Courts. He is also a member of several state and national bar associations, including the Alabama, D.C. and Florida Bars; the American Bar Association (Sections on Litigation and Corporate, Banking and Business Law); and the Federal Bar Association (Committees on Banking, Federal Practice ands Elections), among many other professional groups.

In his personal time, he has taught law courses at the Emory University School of Law, and currently lectures on securities fraud and ethics issues at several law schools throughout the Southeast. A former officer and member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Israel of Greater Miami, where he was active on the Membership and Finance Committees, he currently serves as a member of the Temple's Advisory Council and as its representative to the Union for Reform Judaism. He is also a Trustee member of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Regional Board of the Anti-Defamation League, and a former member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Alexander Muss High School in Israel.

In addition, Mr. Sacher is a member of the Democratic Leadership Council and the Finance Committee of the National Democratic Party.
