About Brian

Brian is an attorney at law in Illinois, a member of the Illinois Bar Association and DuPage County Bar Association.  Brian began his academic career in the middle of the Pacific at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science as well as in American History, in 2011. After completing his undergraduate degree he moved back to Illinois, missing the seasonal changes and climate. He then attended law School at the Southern Illinois University School of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctor, in 2015. He also graduated with a certificate in International and Comparative Law. Focusing upon a diverse fields  of law relating to International Law. He has studied law on three continents. In Europe he studied the European Court of Justice, International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court, and briefly the German legal system both in class and from legal officers of the respective tribunals and courts. In Africa he traveled to Botswana and South Africa, where he focused on studying the Botswanan Roman Dutch legal system and tribal law. Under respected attorneys and judges he studied a wide range of legal fields in Botswana.

Much of Brian’s early experience and public service was at the DuPage County State’s Attorney office where he volunteered as a law clerk, two different summers. His first summer comprised of legal memoranda research, appellate brief drafting, observing court and research for an amicus brief for Cook County.  Notably the appellate brief he drafted was read on its merits and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the State. The amicus brief regarded human torture under Chief of Police, Jon Burge, and the resulting torture was sanctioned by the United Nations. The following summer he was assigned to Juvenile court. He argued sentencing hearings, for emergency detention successfully, had warrants issued, and acted as co-counsel in Parental fitness hearings and parental rights termination hearings.

Recently as a volunteer with CVLS Brian has taken three different cases. First being a custody/allocation of parenting time and parenting responsibilities. In that case Brian drafted a petition, judgment/default order regarding a client’s allocation of parenting time and parenting responsibilities in order to obtain pass ports for a parent’s children to travel outside the country. In his other case he was a civil litigator representing a third-party defendant in a motor vehicle tort action. He’s filed an answer and affirmative defenses, responded to and propounded discovery requests and conducted depositions as well as saw the case to a close with a settlement order, shortly after mediation, where his client was indemnified. The third case was another motor vehicle case, where he represented the defendant, prepped a witness’s testimony, organized exhibits, and prepared for a bench trial, which was ultimately voluntarily dismissed with prejudice by the Plaintiff.

He has also represented criminal defendants in felony matters ranging from Burglary, Retail theft, and a variety of Possession of controlled substances charges. He has successfully negotiated a client out of a mandatory Class X sentencing through a Plea bargain arrangement and through an Illinois Supreme Court 402 conference. He has further assisted other clients in their criminal defense matters, settling a DUI matter for a veteran, arguing for a motion to reduce bail, and various other criminal defense stages of cases. He has also successfully petitioned the State of Illinois for several expungements in differing circuits on behalf of another client.

Brian’s practice extends to family law, as well, where he’s represented a respondent in a dissolution of marriage case where he drafted a Counter-Petition for
dissolution of marriage, Answer/Response, Petition for Temporary Maintenance, financial Affidavits, responded to and propounded discovery. He successfully obtained Maintenance after a summary hearing, negotiated a marriage settlement agreement, and examined witnesses for a Prove Up hearing that resulted in an order granting a dissolution of marriage.

Much of Brian’s Experience is obtained through his continued commitment to PRO BONO services to those of lesser income through the Chicago Volunteer legal services and on his own. Brian firmly believes that people should have equal access to justice no matter their income. Alternate fee arrangements are always an option with BLIND JUSTICE.

Brian loves to spend his free time practicing  yoga, exercising hiking, reading, skiing (cross country and Alpine,) participating in any outdoor activities, surfing when he is near an ocean,  following Chicago sports, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
