About Brian
If you ask Attorney Tyler what area of law he practices, you are likely to get the response, "I help consumers and small businesses that are struggling financially. Debt resolution is my focus. In doing so, my practice spans many areas of law, including business law, bankruptcy, real estate, taxation, foreclosure, business termination and entrepreneur issues, to name a few."
Attorney Brian J. Tyler opened his Harrisburg Law Offices in October, 2006. He was formerly a partner with Purcell, Krug & Haller. "Being on my own allows me the freedom to be creative in addressing my clients' concerns," says Tyler, "I am not limited to being a bankruptcy attorney, but rather an attorney and counselor with a focused practice in debt resolutions." His niche practice is thriving. This might be because he strives to offer a "full-service" representation, tailored to the goals and particular facts of each client. Sometimes that requires taking off the attorney jacket and tie to visit a business client's work site to understand the logistics of the business operations; or helping an elderly business owner physically consolidate locations; or helping clients, consumers and small business owners alike, to organize records so that un-filed tax returns can be prepared. Often he identifies other professionals such as real estate agents, appraisers, or accountants and coordinates their services, as needed. "Sometimes the smallest task creates the largest obstacle to moving forward for a small business owner or other client. If I can jump in and show the client an easy way of getting over a particular obstacle, even if unrelated to or beyond the scope of my representation as Counsel, everyone is better served," reasons Attorney Tyler.
His approach to representation is thorough. With small business clients, he starts with a comprehensive analysis of the business history and present conditions. He then becomes educated as to the client's business or trade, researching the industry and trends. Attorney Tyler adds, "Finally, and most importantly, I spend time understanding the client on a personal level: exploring what brought him or her to this point and assessing the energy, motivations and goals of the people behind the business. Only then can we begin to move forward and develop a course of action. Often the client is so overwhelmed with the daily tasks of keeping the business afloat and ‘putting out of fires,' that he never sees where he is presently or where he is headed in the bigger picture." Tyler hones in on a client's inability to move beyond looking at each "tree" in isolation, but instead to see the "forest" as a whole. Sometimes it also is an awakening to the client that the bulldozers may be around the next bend.
Solutions to debt problems through the Law Offices of Brian J. Tyler are varied and include out-of-court negotiations, IRS payment plans and Offers-In-Compromise, relief through filing for bankruptcy protection, selling or liquidating all or part of a business, or other creative possible remedies. The solutions are often as varied and mixed as each client's unique set of facts. Attorney Tyler finds that through his extensive experience addressing consumer and small business debt problems, including extensive experience analyzing small businesses of all types, he is motivated by developing a distinctive practice that offers unique and tailored solutions that bring about positive and lasting results for each client.
Brian Tyler is a 1991 Summa Lauda graduate of Gettysburg College and a 1996 graduate of Widener U. School of Law. He lecturers frequently in his field and was named a "Rising Star" in Pennsylvania law for 2005 and 2006 by Pennsylvania "Super Lawyers" and Philadelphia Magazine. He also serves as a Court-appointed mediator in bankruptcy cases for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
