About C.

Mark represents victims of negligence and medical malpractice in cases across North Carolina. In recent years, Mark has led the firm's medical malpractice cases. In 2000, Mark secured the largest reported settlement of a birth injury case in North Carolina history on behalf of a four-year-old girl with cerebral palsy due to a birth injury.

From 1998-2000, Mark helped establish and chaired the Professional Negligence Section of the N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mark also speaks at education seminars for attorneys and at conferences of doctors and nurses concerning his work in representing victims of medical malpractice.  Mark currently serves on a statewide committee of attorneys and doctors which discusses issues of concern to both professions.  The committee is sponsored by the N.C. Bar Association and the N.C. Medical Society.

Mark recently was selected by his peers for inclusion in the publication Best Lawyers in America for 2006 and 2007 and was selected as a North Carolina Super Lawyer for 2006 and 2007.

Mark has served as a member of The Governor's Advocacy Council on Children and Youth, and as President of Wake Up For Children.  As Chair of the Child Advocacy Committee of the Young Lawyers Division of the N.C. Bar Association. Mark was instrumental in starting a statewide program in which young lawyers across North Carolina volunteered to serve as guardians ad litem for child abuse victims.

Mark, along with his sister and their families, recently endowed a scholarship at Wake Forest University honoring his parents upon the occasion of the retirement of his father, Dr. E. Glen Holt, who served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville, NC for 30 years. Mark also endowed a scholarship fund at the Divinity School at Wake Forest University honoring his father's work in the ministry.

Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Horizons Foundation of Easter Seals/UCP of North Carolina, the Board of Visitors of the Divinity School at Wake Forest University and on the Leadership Team at Lacy Elementary School.

Mark has two children, Charles and Sarah. They are active members of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church. Mark coaches youth basketball and baseball teams and teaches Sunday School.
