Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I recently represented an injured client that was initially offered $10,000.00 by ICBC to settle his case. After hiring me, we successfully settled his case for more than $300,000.00. This is enough money for him to obtain the medical therapies he needs to recover from his injuries and adequately compensates him for his pain and suffering.
How did you build a successful practice?
I made sure that I maintained the highest standards of customer service and client satisfaction. Most of my clients were refereed to me by other or previous clients and I consider that a testament to the level of satisfaction my clientele have with my services.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for a lawyer that has a) experience and competency in the area of law relevant to the clients' needs, b) proof that the lawyer has achieved success in that area in the past, and c) the ability to communicate well with them and to explain what his or her plan is to achieve success in this particular case.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Having local knowledge is vital to the success of our personal injury cases for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, most cases are won through the use of expert evidence, and we use local experts in a variety of areas to help win our clients' cases. These include local doctors, engineers, accident reconstructionists, etc. Also, having local knowledge of the lower mainland allows us to serve the clientele that live here in their preferred language of either English, Punjabi, Urdu or Hindi. Further, as residents of lower mainland, we have professional business contacts that can assist our clients in their recovery, including physiotherapists, massage therapists and chiropractors. Many of these contacts can provide our clients with services on a "no fee until recovery" basis, meaning that their fees are deferred until the claim has settled.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
While we cannot provide legal advice until we are retained, our initial telephone conversation allows us to explain our services and fees, and the particulars of the personal injury claims process to clients.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
It is helpful if the client can provide the accident particulars, such as the date, time and location. Also, it is helpful if we have the claim number from ICBC.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
We pride ourselves in our motto ""we settle when you are ready, not when ICBC is ready"". To achieve settlements for our clients when they are ready, we set ourselves apart from other firms by controlling the claims and litigations processes rather than allow ICBC to control them. Practically speaking, this means we file lawsuits and use the court rules to demand that ICBC pays for accident benefits and compensation in a timely way, not simply when it is convenient for them.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Handing my client a settlement cheque at the end of a claim.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy living a west coast lifestyle, including snowboarding and hiking.
Are you involved in your community?
I have volunteered as a board member for the Surrey Crime Prevention Society, and I am a member of the Trial Lawyers' Association of B.C.
