Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Two cases come to mind. The first is where we were able to take steps to prevent an elderly family member from being taken advantage of by advising family members as to their legal options when a person's mental capacity is affected, arranging referrals to the proper healthcare providers for assessments and treatment and obtaining a court order for the management of her financial affairs by a trusted family member. We regularly advise clients who have concerns on how to prevent family members from being taken advantage of, as well as pursuing those responsible for taking advantage of vulnerable persons. The second is where we successfully defended a group of condominium owners from a suit brought by a dishonest contractor who drastically overcharged them for work done to their building. The contractor placed liens on their property, seized funds in their bank account, and the owners were in danger of losing their properties. After a hard fought legal battle, over 3 years, we were able to successfully resolve the case for the owners who were able to hold on to their property and move on.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

There is a lot that can be accomplished in a phone consultation. With our experience, we can listen carefully and ask the right questions to identify the issues concerning you. Once the issues of the been identified, i.e. what the problem is, we can outline the process and what further steps may be required to resolve your problem. Some problems are quite simple and we can steer the caller in the right direction to resolve the matter. More typically, your difficulty will be more complex and require a meeting to review documents and obtain all additional facts to be able to provide advice as to the appropriate legal remedies. In that case the free telephone consultation should enable you to determine and feel comfortable about your next step in the process of solving the problem. The free telephone consultation should also give you a good idea as to whether or not you feel comfortable talking to the lawyer, whether the lawyer seemed to understand your problem and whether he or she is knowledgeable in the area of your concern and solution oriented. This should enable you to feel much more comfortable in making the decision to meet with that lawyer to further discuss your problem and potential solutions.

Are you involved in your community?

As the father of four, I have had plenty of opportunities to participate community functions whether it be organizing a block party, acting as chairman of the board of one of my daughter's special education schools, a therapeutic riding organization, or coaching baseball. As a lawyer, you can make a valuable contribution to a volunteer board and I can say that being a board member or acting as chairman, I find that what we are able to accomplish at those organizations for the students and parents served is always rewarding - even with operational challenges and the never-ending search for additional funding for our programs!
