About Carmen
Carmen D. Contreras-Martinez concentrates her practice in complex commercial litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Contreras-Martinez was involved in some of the largest class action and litigation matters in South Florida. She was on the trial team that represented 700,000 doctors and medical societies against ten HMO's in the nation's largest and most successful class-action lawsuit against the managed care industry. In litigation, she served as counsel to the court-appointed Receiver, in the case against Fort Lauderdale-based Mutual Benefits Corporation, the nation's largest viatical settlement company.
Prior to law school, Ms. Contreras-Martinez was a business executive in New York City for Citicorp's Retail Bank Division. She was an Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager for the bank's Wall Street and Fulton Street Branches as well as an authorized commercial lender and licensed investment counselor.
Ms. Contreras-Martinez is an active member in professional organizations such as the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, the Miami-Dade County Defense Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, and the Miami-Dade County Bar Association. She is also a member of the Harvard Schools Committee for the Southern Florida Region.
Ms. Contreras-Martinez is a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Ms. Contreras-Martinez earned her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School and her Bachelor's degree in Economics and Sociology from Harvard University. While in law school, she was recognized by Who's Who' Among American Law Students for three consecutive years.
