About Catherine

Catherine Rushing Steinwinder ("Katie") was born in Enterprise, Alabama and raised in Elba, Alabama. Katie attended Troy State University, where she graduated summa cum laude, majoring in political science and history and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi. Following graduation from college, Katie worked for Governor Jim Folsom, Jr. in the Governor's Press Office. She also took a leave of absence from the Governor's Office and worked for Gov. Folsom's 1994 gubernatorial campaign.

In 1995, Katie began law school at the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating in December 1997. While in law school, Katie received the Dorbin Association scholarship and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Following law school graduation, she earned Series 7 and Series 63 financial licenses and worked in the investment banking field.

In 2000, Katie served as law clerk to the Hon. William A. Shashy, 15th Judicial Circuit. In 2001, she went to work with the Birmingham, Alabama law firm, Starnes & Atchison. In 2005, Katie returned to Montgomery and has been in practice since, with a primary focus on family law issues, including appellate practice.

In July 2008, Lt. Gov. Folsom appointed Katie to the Alabama Family Law Task Force, charged with the task of reviewing and revising, if necessary, Alabama laws regarding child custody, visitation, child support, alimony and other issues relevant to rearing children in Alabama.
