Catherine A. Van Horn practices in the area of commercial litigation, media/first amendment law and intellectual property law, including trademark and copyright counseling, licensing, registration and litigation, TTAB and UDRP proceedings, and patent litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Van Horn was a partner in the Chicago law firm of Mandel, Menkes & Surdyk.

Ms. Van Horn is AV Rated by Martindale Hubble and is a member of the American Bar Association Litigation Section, Communications Law Forum, Women in Communications Subcommittee, and Intellectual Property Law Section. She is a member of the ABA Intellectual Property Section committee on Trade Identity and Unfair Competition, and a member and chairperson of the Trade Identity and Unfair Competition subcommittee on Trademark Fair Use. She has recently been appointed as the Miami Regional Representative for the Women in Communications Law subcommittee of the ABA Forum on Communications Law.

Additionally, she is a past member of the Business Law Subcommittee on Software Contracting which was responsible for drafting the new software and intangibles provisions in Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code. She is also a past member of the Unfair Competition/Trade Identity Committee, Subcommittee on Internet and Domain Name Registration, the Section of Science and Technology Law and a past member of the Chicago Bar Association.

Ms. Van Horn has authored Defamation Based Solely on Tone of Voice, in 1999 for Communications Lawyer magazine Vol. 16, No. 4 and has lectured on "Internet and the Law: Considering the Issues of Privacy, Censorship, and Copyrights, at DePaul University in Chicago.

Ms. Van Horn is a member of the Florida and Illinois Bars and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Florida and the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Seventh, Eighth and Federal Circuits. Ms. Van Horn earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School in 1990, where she was a comment editor for the Law Review and a semi-finalist in the Hinton Moot Court competition. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University in 1976.
