CharlesGottlieb has been a civil trial attorney since 1967. His practice has focused onemployment law since 1980.
Mr. Gottliebrepresents employees. His practice involves litigating all types of claims onbehalf of employees. He has tried lawsuits and argued appeals in numerousemployment cases in Michigan and Federal courts and administrative agencies,including the Michigan Supreme Court, the 6th United States CircuitCourt of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He was the plaintiff'strial and appellate attorney in Toussaint v Blue Cross a Michigan SupremeCourt decision nationally recognized as establishing an employee's right totermination for good cause. He is also co-lead class counsel in the case of Inre: Unisys Retiree Medical Benefits ERISA Litigation (partial settlement of$38.1 million for claim that Unisys had duty to provide retiree medical coveragefor life), for a class-action suit brought for Fruehauf/Kelsey Hayes retirees,and for a retiree medical benefits class action.
Mr. Gottliebreceived an undergraduate degree in business administration from the Universityof Michigan. He received law degree with honors for outstanding academicachievement from Wayne State University Law School. He served as an editor ofhis school's Law Review for two years.
He has been listed in the Labor and Employment Lawsection of Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers In America . He is a formerdirector of the Michigan Employment Lawyers Association, a former PlaintiffCo-Chair of the American Bar Association Employee Rights Trial PracticeCommittee, and was appointed to the Employment Law Subcommittee of the MichiganSupreme Court Standard Jury Instruction Committee. He is a member of theAmerican Bar Association, the Michigan Bar Association, the Oakland BarAssociation, and the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association.
