Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

We've assisted numerous clients in probate and administration matters that range from simple, straightforward matters to very complex, contested matters. In one recent case, we were able to assist a family that involved a complex estate in resolving a fair division of the assets despite some very contentious and hurtful behavior of other family members. The ability to resolve cases like this relates not only to our expertise regarding probate law but also our desire to help families arrive at a solution that is fair to everyone involved and can promote family unity.

How did you build a successful practice?

[responsiveness, track record, hard work, creativity, word of mouth, etc.] The cornerstones of our law practice are expertise, compassion and effectiveness. These philosophies are equally important to us and have contributed to our reputation for excellence.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Genuine expertise in the field of probate law and estate planning is not commonplace. Though some lawyers may dabble in this field of law (while working in other fields like family law or criminal defense), lawyers who practice primarily in this area will develop a level of experience and expertise that allows them to resolve problems more rapidly and efficiently. Our practice is devoted nearly 100% to probate and estate planning matters.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is critical to successfully representing clients in probate matters because Judges and court staff develop both a familiarity and rapport with lawyers who practice in front of them regularly.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Our firm offers a free 30 minute telephone consultation to most potential clients so that we can gain a basic understanding of your needs and provide a thumbnail outline of what we believe needs to happen to effectively resolve your legal matter. In a usual telephone consultation, you and a lawyer will discuss your case, what needs to happen to resolve your case, potential costs and time involved and your desired outcome.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Basic details about your case, a brief description of any unusual details or special parties involved and whether or not you have the original documents (e.g., Last Will and Testament) that may be involved.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In Texas, being Board Certified is unique as only fewer than 10% of attorneys are board certified in any field of law. This means that lawyers with such certification have devoted a substantial portion of their practice to this field, have passed a rigorous written examination in this field and have provided references regarding practice from both fellow lawyers and the judges who we practice before. In addition to being Board Certified, I continued my education beyond law school and earned a Masters of Law in Tax Law. Furthermore, I am admitted to practice law in every court in the State of Texas, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas and the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C..

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I genuinely enjoy helping families in need resolve probate matters and protect themselves through estate planning. Our practice focuses solely on these matters (which include elder law, guardianship and certain aspects of business law).

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Cooking, Golf and learning to fly.
