MacDonald v. Ahmed Practice Area: Medical Malpractice Outcome: Jury verdict in excess of seven figures. Description: This case involved negligent care of our client upon his admission to City Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The basic claim in the case was that Mr. MacDonald was prescribed and administered a lethal three-drug combination that should never be given together. The medications were cyclosporing, Diflucan and Lipitor. As a result of these medications being given and not properly monitored, Mr. MacDonald developed a disease that attacks the muscles called rhabdomyolyses. It has left Mr. MacDonald, a very active retired-school teacher, unable to move and walk without great difficulty. The jury deliberated for four hours and awarded signigicant damgages for pain and suffering and past medical bills to James, as well as damages to Debbie, his wife, for damage to their marriage. Lead counsel was Barry J. Nace, and I served as co-counsel along with D. Michael Burke. The MacDonalds are wonderful, hardworking people who did not deserve to have this happen to them.
