Notable Work
Mr. Rodriguez was accused of home invasion robbery because his DNA was found in the home. Mr. Rodriguez's DNA had transferred to the home without him having ever been near the location. He was framed by his own DNA. After our cross examination of the State's witnesses, including an expert on DNA evidence, the jury gave us a not guilty verdict.
Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I took an Aggravated Robbery case to trial where the State had DNA evidence implicating my client in a home invasion involving 4 masked men with AK-47's. My clients DNA ended up on the home but he was never there. I successfully showed the jury that my client's DNA had transferred to the home without him every setting foot inside. My client was framed by his own DNA and the jury found him not guilty.
How did you build a successful practice?
Years of experience. I have practiced criminal defense in Utah for 12 years. I have gone to trial more than most attorneys in Utah and I have won more than most. I focus my time on being the best attorney in the State and, with that, other attorneys and clients give me referrals. I do not spend money on google ads or SEO because the best attorney is not the one at the top of google. The best attorney is the one other attorneys would choose to represent them if they are charged with a crime.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A good criminal defense lawyer is not not afraid to go to trial. Client's should ask attorney's about what cases the attorney has tried in front of a jury. An attorney who has tried lots of serious cases will not be intimidated by the government.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is extremely important. I have been practicing in Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas my entire career. The prosecutors and Judges know who I am and they know I have the skills to be successful in trial.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I will discuss the case with you and we will decide on our strategy for your defense.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I will need your name and date of birth. From there I can look up your case and see the charges and the probable cause statement. I will likely want to know some details about the incident but sometimes it is smart to wait until we have all of the evidence against you before we get into the details.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have more winning trial experience than most and I am a better communicator than most. Client's have my personal cell phone so that they always are informed about what is happening in their case and my clients generally feel reassured by my knowledge of the system and my ability to explain our defense strategy.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I love winning trial. Not guilty verdicts are what I live for.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
My interests include rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding and not guilty verdicts.
Are you involved in your community?
I am involved in the criminal defense community through UACDL and NACDL. Generally, I am either working my cases or getting into the mountains.
